Yes, or there is a short in the fans wiring. Test the fans separately. There are four terminals in the connector--two for each fan.

It means the fan motor is burned out.

scouter, You can put the negative cable on an engine bolt or bracket. Be sure you hook up the negative last, we don't want sparks near the battery.
Good luck.

SOURCE: I had the battery replaced, there is one positive

where does the wire go to? and waht color is it? If it is red then it will go to the positive side, if it is black it will go to negative side. If the wire is any color other than those try putting it on the negative side first and start the car up and see if the fan kicks in. If it doesnt kick in after several minutes of idle time try connecting it to the positive side. If it sparks then put it back on the negative side. Thats what i would do in your case. Good luck

At one fan, one wiring connector, if voltage on both wires, there is no ground for whatever reason. If that is what your asking?
Note the diagram, the top color wire is voltage, the bottom is ground, regardless of color.
If you hooked up the jumper wires to one fan properly, for voltage and ground, it should run. Just my opinion.

How to get the battery out

The battery in the 2003 Pontiac Montana is located in the engine compartment on the passenger's side just behind the headlight assembly. Changing the battery can be a little challenging because the Pontiac saw fit to bury it below several other parts in the van. The under-hood fuse box sits directly above the battery and a cross brace runs over the top of it as well. Dealing with both items is not complicated but does add time to the process. How to change a bad thermostat on a 2003 3.4L pontiac montana

put in a radiator flush ,run it for 20 miles it can be a blocked core in both the radiator and the heater.that should clean it. then refill with a 50/50 mix anti freeze then bleed it of air. put your heater on full .run the engine on tick over.then push in the radiator hose to push the air out of the expansion bottle cap .it is off . then refit your cap.

Within five minutes, it starts to redline overheat, if you drive 2000rpm, it goes down, but goes back up when you idle

it could be a stuck thermostat, or a plugged radiator or cooling system, check to be sure cooling fans come on when they should or it will overheat. when moving it is air cooled through radiator. thats why it over heats at a stand still. check fans first, it could be a fuse relay or the coolant tempurature if fans do not work or coolant sensor not turning on coolant fans at the proper tempurature.

Electric fans for radiator do not turn on. Tested

Temp sending sensor may be bad. If it is bad the fans don't have something "saying it's hot or overheating, need to turn on fans to cool down" The fans are not getting the signal it needs to turn on. If you have checked the motors and relay then this is the only other problem I have seen,

My 2002 Pontiac Montana engine temp quickly increases at idle and while stopped at lights. The engine temp is OK while moving. Please advise of possible causes as I am concerned about engine damage from...

Check your cooling fan motor at radiator, should come on at about 220 -225 deg, while moving you have air blowing through radiator and will keep engine cool, at stops no air going through radiator and will cause over heating. Have fan check out

Pontiac Montana overheating

How do you know the thermostat is ok? If in doubt replace it. Water pumps are a even bigger what if. Did he do a radiator flush? Cooling system flush of the engine? Cooling fans come on at what temp and go off when? Replace the engine temperature sensor? 6 years old is bound to have sensors and such go bad.

2005 Pontiac Montana SV6 heater blows cold when slowing to idle

How cold is it there and does your engine cool down any while going slow? If it does it may mean you need a hotter thermostat installed, My first thought would be to check the coolant level in the radiator and the coolant reservoir! Hope this helps and Merry Christmas
