The stereo is original and has not been tampered with, you said this could be because of direct power being supplied, but this just started happening I thought there might be some type of relay that automatically shuts power to the radio that was some how connected to the door, I say this because when i used to shut the key off the radio would stay on until i opened the driver door now it does not, i was thinking there was some type of relay that burnt out i just don't know how this works.

no, radio stays on unless i manually shut it off, but it stays illuminated at all times and can be turned on without key being on.

not what I was looking for, was hoping someone knew if this was common problem for a jag x-type. But i will accept as a bad stereo. thanks.

A simple solution would be to install a power switch for the radio.

I realize that if your not fimiliar with electronics at all and if you don't know how to take the radio out from the car and find out which wire is the correct one, you shouldn't be doing this.

take the car to a friend or a professional who could install a power switch for the radio.

The radio has two power wires. + - generally red and black. depends on the radio. it should be 12volts

You could put a switch between one the of the power wires, generally the + (red) one.

a basic simple 12v switch with 2 positions, off and on. will cost less than 10usd.

what you need is some red wire, 1 meter should be more than enough.
a switch.
4 wire fittings

(two of each red one)

You will need to cut the red wire first, attach a fitting to it, then prepare the wire you purchased, and use a fitting on its other end, now you can connect this to the original wire to extend it, other end goes to the switch, you will want to cut the wire on the middle. so you have two wires for this modification.

connect the other wire to the other end on the switch, then prepare the head of the wire and attach a fitting to it, and then finally prepare the wire on your radio and then attach a fitting.

attach the wires.

so now you have a switch on the red power wire, when the switch is turned off the radio will not power on, when the switch is turned on the radio will turn on.

I realize that if your not fimiliar with electronics at all and if you don't know how to take the radio out from the car and find out which wire is the correct one, you shouldn't be doing this.

Ask another expert (reject the solution) Or take the car to a friend or a professional who could install a power switch for the radio.

The only thing that will cause this in most cases is a sticking door switch for the accessory delay input, (keeps radio on until you open the door) if you open the passenger door does the radio go off?

Please check if I interpreted the issue correctly. The wiring of the radio may be wrong. It may be connected to the hot wire, the one that does not need the ignition set to on to bring power to a device. You need to connect the power to the same terminal as the devices that turn on only when key is at ON position.

Here is a link to a wiring diagram if you plan to do it yourself: Diagram.

Or the does the radio go on after the key is tuned on whether the key is at ON or not turned? For that it may be a combination of the radio connected to the hotwire and a switch problem on the radio, you will have to install a rocker switch in series with the power wire of the radio. If you plan it to be integrated to the dash you may drill or open up some pre-set panels for the switch.

Unfortunately the mechanic you spoke to was correct, a lot of Ford products had a bad run of power steering pumps. They notoriously leak and causes the pump to whine when steering.

What is the battery life expectancy for the 2006 Buick Lucerne?

Battery life is a very complicated issue, there are TONS of factors. High temperature kills batteries, if the fluid goes low, that kills batteries. If you forget and leave lights on, and the battery goes totally dead, (totally dead, zippo, not anything) that kills batteries.

Alternator diodes that fail kills batteries. So 4 to 8 years is typical life IN ABSENCE of the above types of issues. My favorite battery is Interstate. They just work really well. Costco has great battery prices, bumpy for service... Really Dislike Sears die easy.

We change out battery in 2005 Xtype jag after we install battery and car was running as we was program the radio all the light on dash starting blinking and the car died

Sounds like an issue with the car's immobiliser. In order to prevent theft by disconnecting the alarm system when the power is cut the immobiliser is programmed to interrupt the car restart when power resumed. You will need to reset the alarm code.

Sounds like all of the high drain devices are disabled due to a weak battery. You are still getting dash lights and radio because they are very low drain devices. Try charging the battery to test for now. It could be a failing battery, or your alternator and or voltage regulator could be going out and not charging the system. But first, try to charge the battery, and see if you can start it, if you can, let it run for at least 10 minutes. If your alternator/VR is going out or is already out, you should have a guage, or idiot light telling you that you have low voltage. If its a light, you should see a red battery lit up on the dash, if its a guage, it should be directly in the middle +/- a little. If you are able to run the vehicle for a while with no light coming on, or guage showing low voltage, its safe to say you drained the battery, or it is failing. If its a few years old or more, i'd go ahead and replace it. Hope this helps :)

I've got a 2000 that did the same thing. Get this, it was caused by a defective trunk seal that let water in my trunk and got my wiring wet. Could'nt even shut off the car, only way to kill it was to pull the positve battery cable, negative won't kill it. After all dried out, and jag dealer reset my failsafe mode all good....... until now i have a .500 ma draw on power while sitting unused, brand new batteries down in 1 week??
