What do you do when the air diverter box is not working properly? I have a 2001 Cad. Deville where the air does not blow thru the main vents in the cabin. Can it be repaired easily or do I need to take the Dealer? If so, how do I proceed?

The problem will usually be because the air diverter door actuator on the HVAC box under the dash has failed, is stuck or is not getting the required signal from your HVAC control system.
It sounds like the flapper valve behind the dashboard that diverts the incoming air from outside air to AC cooled air is not working. The cable wire may have come loose. It's located under the right side of the dash. If it's like my 1989 - you can access it by removing the glove box... fairly easy to do, just open the glove box and remove the upper and lower phillips head screws, and gently pull the glove box out and unplug the wiring connector on the left side. Also check to see if the solenoid valve is working when you change from off to heat or cool.
You likely have a faulty blend door. It could be electrically, mechanically related, or even a broken door. It may be the blend door motor, or possibly the temp sensor.
You have a air box heater box air divert valve stuck you will need to replace it first start by looking under the dash passenger side you will see a round part with some vacuum hoses coming off from them start engine switch your location function switch see if working on divert er vacuum you most likely will have to replace your divert er valve.
It sounds like the actuator that diverts the air may have gone out. I would suggest replacing the blend-door actuator so that your air will go to the right places. The blend door actuator shouldn't cost more than $150.
check or loss of vacuum to mode control switch in dash ac control. these are not blend doors, they are air flow control, a blend door controls the air temperature not where it comes out.
There is a air diverter box down on the right side under the dash. This most of the time is the problem. If you have air exchange at other areas and not at the vents this is most likely the problem.
the blower unit changes the air/blower locations via an electronic circuit board in the dash. the chances are the resistor or the board itself has become defective i had this very problem with my vehicle last summer in the hottest part of the summer. it would be best to take it to the dealership or reputable mechanic since this is an original part only and have the board replaced. you could possibly take it and have it fixed but if this part has played out there is a good chance that the other cicuits on the same board will play out as well and defeat your repairs. hope this helped and good luck..
