There is no spring, so what is the problem? this is a hydraulic clutch, if the pedal is on the floor the master or slave hydraulic cylinder has failed.

How does one hook in the clutch pedal spring?


the spring on a clutch pedal is for returning pedal back after taking foot off it ,i dont think it holds the cable anywhere,it will hook on to pedal at top and the other end will hook to a bracket towards driver under dash get a torch lay on your back and you should see where the bracket is it will be directly inline with the pedal

Clutch pedal


Probably a spring pulls it back and some kind of a stop keeps it from coming oll the way out or the linkage itself may hold it to it's highest position.When you depress it and then let it off the fingers in the pressure plate push the throw out bearing back which pushed the clutch back to it run position.

My Nissan 95 sentra clutch had crunched and pedal would not spring back, found that clutch cable had snapped, replaced this and now my clutch pedal is still not 100% springing back, it springs back en


Check the spring to see if it has snapped anywhere within it's coil.

Remove the cable and check operation of the pedal and spring mechanism.
If all is well, then with a lever, check that the clutch release arm on the gearbox is operational. If that is also sticking, then you will have to remove the gearbox to investigate further.
If not sticking, then also remove the clutch cable outer sleeve, and replace.

Squeaky clutch pedal


This is a common problem. Your clutch pedal has a return spring on it, each end of which can squeak when dry.
Look under the dash, and locate this. Dab a bit of grease at each end of the spring where it hooks around. Work the pedal up and down a few times and the squeak should go the way of the Honda Element.

After engaging the clutch pedal, it won't fully spring back to normal position.


There is a spring on the clutch fork which resists pushing the pedal and returns the pedal to its proper rest position. It would be on the bell housing where the slave cylinder is attached. Possibly that spring has broken, and hopefully you can replace it without pulling the bell housing off the engine block..

Volvo S40 :clutch pedal spring


The spring broke on my S40 clutch pedal too.
The old spring looks like a modified volvo part since none of the S40 clutch pedal springs at Volvo spares looks exactly the same as the one that broke. The one that broke looks similar to the replacement part that I bought, but one can clearly see that the old one was cut shorter at the other end and bent over to make it fit onto the clutch pedal mechanism. This is absolutely pathetic. I am taking it to Volvo to fix their rubbish themselves - and then they are still going to charge me R750 ($100) to replace a stupid spring! By the way, Volvo always wants the vehicle VIN number when buying spares because some of their cars (of the same year and model) use different parts - CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS! By the way, I am replacing the spring to pull the pedal all the way back - otherwise if I start the car in the mornings then the pedal is nearly on the floor when the car starts moving. If I pull the pedal back with my foot , then all is back to normal. I am scared that I may have no clutch after some time - so I will rather replace it.

REMOVAL:
  1. Lift clutch pedal to uppermost position to disengage clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft.
  2. Push clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft forward and unhook clutch release lever cable from clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft and allow it to slowly swing rearward.
  3. Raise and support vehicle.
  4. Remove clutch release lever dust shield.
  5. Disconnect clutch release lever cable from clutch release shaft.
  6. Remove retaining clip, then clutch release lever cable from flywheel housing.
  7. Remove starter motor from flywheel housing, then engine rear plate to front lower flywheel housing bolts.
  8. Remove transmission.
  9. Remove flywheel housing back just far enough to clear clutch pressure plate, then remove housing.
  10. Remove clutch release shaft from flywheel housing by pulling it through window in flywheel housing until retainer spring disengages from pivot.
  11. Remove clutch release hub and bearing from clutch release shaft.
  12. Loosen six clutch pressure plate bolts evenly to release spring tension gradually and avoid distorting clutch pressure plate. If same clutch pressure plate is to be installed, mark plate and flywheel so pressure plate can be installed in its original position.
  13. Remove clutch pressure plate and clutch disc from flywheel.
INSTALLATION:
  1. Position clutch disc and pressure plate assembly on flywheel, noting following:
    1. Three flywheel housing to block dowels on flywheel must be properly aligned with clutch pressure plate.
    2. Bent, damaged or missing flywheel housing to block dowels must be replaced.
    3. tart clutch pressure plate bolts but do not tighten.
    4. Avoid touching clutch disc face, dropping parts or contaminating parts with oil or grease.
    5. Align clutch disc using suitable alignment tool inserted in pilot bearing.
    6. To avoid clutch pressure plate distortion, alternately tighten bolts a few turns at a time, until they are all tight, then tighten to specifications.

  2. Install transmission to flywheel housing.
  3. Install engine rear plate to flywheel front lower housing bolts, then connect clutch release cable to flywheel housing and connect retaining clip.
  4. Connect clutch release lever cable to clutch release shaft, then install clutch release lever dust shield.
  5. Install starter motor.
  6. Lower vehicle, then install clutch release lever cable as follows:
    1. Lift clutch pedal to disengage clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft.
    2. Push clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft forward and hook end of clutch release lever cable over rear of clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft.

  7. Cycle clutch pedal several times to adjust clutch release lever cable

Hi,

To my knowledge, the spring is merely to assist the pedal to return at its default position (clutch engaged), that is pedal up. Normally, it would have an exaggerated j ends. The ends are meant to hook to two (2) slots, one at the pedal itself, the other at the bracket/housing or firewall and not replace the entire clutch assembly. Having said that and as per your post, the clutch works fine, it is a matter of finding a replacement spring of similar physical characteristics/dimensions and hook in place. Hooking in place is relatively easy saved that you have to crouch down and use a long noise pliers. A mechanics troubleshooting lamp would help seeing where the j ends would and should go into.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Clutch pedal not returning to position


Under the dash look to see if there is a spring attached to the petal or maybe under the hood. Or you might have something getting in the was of the petal arm. Good Luck and PEACE
