If you open the trunk you should see 4 bolts or nuts that hold it to the hinges. All the hood adjustment is in those bolts.

If the hood sits too high or low in the back you can also adjust the latch.

The bolts on the 2 arms which connect the body to the trunk must be loosend a little then tap with a rubber mallet or 4 by 4 with a cloth into part, prying a little at the same time. re-tighten bolts.

SOURCE: 1998 Ford Taurus, Trunk is out of alignment and will not close.

you can adjust this yourself if you have the tools, but maybe it's best that you bring it to an auto body shop, collision repair center
(they are more experienced with parts alignment)
and have them adjust it for you.

If the lid is too high, the latch / keeper needs adjusting downward -- loosen, move it down, retighten, test -- repeat until proper adjustment is achieved.

Sometimes the lid get twisted. You can open the lid and with one arm pull down on the side that is up and using the other arm push up, twisting the lid a little. That should level it. There are also rubber stops that turn up and down that help adjust it. But I would try twisting it first since thats how it got missed aligned.

The trunk lid on my 2000 Avalon vxi seems to be out of alignment (slightly) is this easy to fix? It closes and locks ok, but seems to be sitting high when it's closed

Trunk does not completely close

The trunk latch contains a switch which closes when the trunk lid is pushed closed by hand, then this switch sends power to the trunk lid pull down motor which then finishes closing the trunk lid. Often the switch or motor will go bad and the whole thing will stop working. It takes a little testing to figure out which part is at fault but they are usually quite easy to fix.

The trunk won't open w/ remote or elct. sw. only

Hello. Chances are that the Unlocking mechanism in the trunk is either out of alignment or broken. Take a close look at it. It is where the trunk lid actually latches and locks. See if it is loose, or bent, or broken.

Rear lid wont lock

There's no easy solution. Assuming you have a keyless remote and that isn't doing the job. The key in the trunk lid must not be working either. There is a way to crawl through the back seat and manually open the trunk lid, but that's a less than hospitable solution (especially if you have items in your trunk. I've changed the actuator in my daughter's 1998 beetle, and it's not an impossible repair for a novice. Sometimes it's a bad actuator, other times the actuator simply needs to be re-aligned so that operate properly. Dealer cost to do the repair will likely be about $150.

Bottom line, no easy manual solution to the problem, sorry.

Trunk adjustment

first, make sure the new gasket is seated all the way around. If still high, loosen the 4 bolts on the deck lid hinges just enough to allow you to move the deck lid to adjust it. You might want to mark an outline around the hinge on the deck lid before you start.

Please rate if this helps

Switch trunk lids and keeping my orig. lock

If you took the trunk lid off another car and put it on your car, you are going to have to adjust the lock (the part on the inside of the trunk lid) or striker plate or loop (the part on the lower part of the trunk that the lock latches around). no two cars will have the same adjustment of the trunk even though the parts are the same. There should be bolts or screws that you can loosen (not remove) that will allow you to move the lock or striker plate/loop. If you take lipstick and put it on one side of the trunk lock and close the trunk before you loosen the bolts or screws, you might get an idea about how to adjust the parts to make them meet up in proper alignment.

Good Luck
