Question about 1991 Subaru Loyale

1 Answer

Loyale Lights On my girl friend's car. Left headlight is dim, and the running lights don't work. I think there's a relay that is acting up. Any ideas? And where do they put the relays on this car. I have replaced the dim headlight bulb, and the new one is also dim. The ground return for that headlight reads 1.8 ohms. Should I just cut the ground wire and attach it to a ground? Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated by both me and her. John

Alternator voltage: I checked the positive bus voltage with engine running. It was 13.49 volts. The alternator is about a year old and is charging.

Instrument lights and tail lights. They were working a couple of weeks ago and are not completely out. I believe that there is a relay that cuts these lights out when the key is not on - and the relay has burned out. I just need to know where it is and how to get a new one. I talked to Suberu and they told me that they use a non=standard relay n their cars that you have to buy from them for $25 plus change, if they have any, which the Renton dealer did not.

In the last comment = "not completely out" was a mistype. What is true is that they are "now completely out."

Before you start 'modifying' the wiring, firstly make sure that the alternator is emitting enough charge.
There is a good chance that the carbon brushes inside, have worn out.
Hope that does it:)

first go for the easy stuff. do the tail lights come on? if so, then will almost guarantee it's bad bulbs in headlights. if tail lights do not come on I would check fuses first relay second. switch third.

Left headlights

Check your connections at the wiring harness going to headlights for corrosion, sounds like high resistance somewhere, also make sure your ground wires are secure. It wouldn't be the alternator or the battery would be dead and not start the engine. Also shouldn't be any condensation in your head light assembly's or will cause bulbs to blow prematurely.

I have a 2003 Infiniti m45 and every time I turn the headlights on the dashboard lights gets dim what's the problem?

There is nothign wrong with your car-when you turn on the headlights the car believes you are turnung them on because it is dark outside, so it automatically dims your dashboard lights for you (since it now thinks it's nighttime). Your car already has daytime running lights, so you don't need to turn your headlights on in the daytime-they come on automatically when the car is running. You can keep your dash lights dim or bright by adjusting the small black dial on the left side of the dashboard, whether headlights are on or off if you want to.

2004 Maxima, front, rear running lights, dash dimmer don't work. Lamps and fuses are good. Possible cause(s)?

All lighting fuses and relays are in a plastic box under the hood close to the battery on top of the inner fender well. Do not mess with the computer, it has nothing to do with the lights. check every fuse in the box under the hood.

'91 Subaru: dash & running lights won't turn on with headlights

This is a problewm I have been researching. On the 91 Loyale there are two headlight relays. The relay for the left headlight also controls the instrument lights and the running lights. If the right relay is working and the left is not, the left headlight will be dim because of a back electrical path through the high beam indicator light on the dash, but the instrument and running lights will be out. I have been trying to find out where Subaru put these relays, but three Subaru service departments have been no help. One dealer's service department told me to remove the large bezel around the instrument panel. I did and the relays weren't there. Lots of luck.

Park lights stay on when headlight switch is off and the ignition is off. Is there a relay or switch that needs to be replaced.

Look on the column up high. Subaru's (Legacy and Loyale have Parking/Standing lights. I hit mine without knowing it!!. A buddy figured it out. Silly me.
