Question about 1991 Buick Park Avenue

1 Answer

Replaced blower motor and capacitor on AC-Furnace. 3/4hp, 4-speed, 115V. Ran for 6weeks, now stopped; blew circuit breaker. When powered in the system, motor humms, and maybe gives a little rocking motion. Motor & blower wheel spin freely. Replaced capacitor. Any thing else before I replace the motor? Can't be bad motor after 6 weeks???

1. check voltage at motor, maybe not enough supply current check connections at both end, one for the wires could be loose, at the breaker also.
2. check the filter maybe very dirty or someone forgot to take off the plastic wrap.

3. don't discount the possibility the motor was a lemon

What is an AC diode fuse? I have a 2006 AWD Pontiac Torrent the AC/Heat doesn't work, I've changed all fuses for the HAVAC and still no AC/Heat blowing out of vents. What could be the problem?

Could be a number of thing's ! Testing the electrical circuit is the way to find out what's wrong . Using a wiring diagram and a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter . Videos on youtube showing how to test it ! Without testing i would only be guessing . Does it work in high speed ? In high speed it by-passes the resistor . If it doesn't work in any speed more then likely the blower motor is the problem !
Air Speed
The HVAC control assembly applies ground to the blower motor control circuit that corresponds to the selected blower speed. The resistors and the blower motor are in a series circuit. The following list represents the number of resistors in series with the blower motor per particular speed request:
• Low speed--3 resistors
• Medium 1 speed--2 resistors
• Medium 2 speed--1 resistor
When the operator requests High speed, the HVAC control assembly applies ground directly to the blower motor through the high blower motor control circuit. The resistor card has a fusible link which, if blown, will require that the card be replaced.

Sentra AC

There's a 10amp fuse that powers the ac clutch relay and compressor. There are 15amp fuses that power the blower motor and the ac control switch. All of those fuses get power from the key switch. The resistor and fan switch provide the ground circuit for the blower motor.
I would want to know if those fuses are getting power, and if the control panel is working. You should be able to ground the blower motor and make it run on high, and that should not have any effect on if the ac compressor is running or not.
It could be a key switch problem in that the circuit is not strong enough to handle the load from the blower and the compressor at the same time.

Capacitor location

some small AC motors may not have capacitor........normally Blower motors are high speed and high start-up torque just like kitchen blender motors. These motors do not have capacitor although they work on AC domestic supply. They have a stater winding and a rotor winding. Rotor gets its supply from carbon brushes generally located at its bottom. They often get worn out and start sparking. One can easely get them replaced.

Blower motor grinding

The first thing you need to know is that replacing a furnace blower motor can be dangerous. You can be injured, you can loose your fingers, you can be electrocuted, you can be burned and you can be killed. Make sure the power to the furnace is off, just because it is not running, does not mean the power is off, just turning the thermostat down does not mean the power is off, Make sure the power is off at the circuit breaker, or the fuse is removed. I have found that 90 percent of the time...-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ac fan speed control sometimes only works on position 5 ,sometimes all speeds work and sometimes will not work at all. replaced fan blower resistor today , still have same problem

The blower motor may be bad, or possibly the fan speed switch. May very well be the circuit breaker for the blower as well. The blower connector may be loose. Let me know what you find.

Ok, may sound like a dumb question, but how do you know if its a blower motor resistor problem or just the blower/motor. Ive been reading solutions for problem on the A/C blower still blowing air but speeds...

The blower motor resistor is usually only switched into the circuit for the lower speeds and for the fastest speed the resistor is bypassed so I guess the motor needs to be replaced if it does not work in any position. However, sometimes the blower motor is not protected by a fuse but by an automatically resetting sealed circuit breaker usually located not far from the motor. The circuit breakers dont fail very often, If the fan works for a few seconds and then stops and then does the same thing several minutes later then the fan motor definitely needs replacing.

check the ac blower transistor under passenger side of dash behind the blower motor. on my 2003 compressor would not cut on , front blower only operated on high an blew hot air, rear blew on all speed but only hot air. $58.00 at dealer plus tax. 15 minute fix. there is a video on youtube that documents the process. just fixed today

Heater blower stops working

Hmm, a problem that I have not encountered before. My best guess is that some component within the heater setup is getting overheated and then it shuts off to avoid further damage. If the heater runs each time you start the car and then turns off during your travels, then this might be the case.

Secondly, there are circuit breakers located in the fuse box. These are silver and are about twice the size of a standard fuse. Unlike a standard fuse that blows once and is done, circuit breakers get hot and "trip". After they cool down the connection is made again. Look to see if a circuit breaker (sometimes labeled CB) is in the fuse box and serves the heater. You may want to get a new one.

Heat/ac blower motor works on high. intermittent on other speeds.

Check the blower resistor pack - usually located in the heater air ducting in the blower fan airflow. Check for loose connections and open circuit resistors on the unit.
If speed 4 works always, its unlikely to be the blower motor ground connection.

No power to front AC, back is fine and Power locks not working

if it only works on one speed check the resister pack for the fan motor, also if it is electronic it could be the control head/module,did the locks stop working at the same time ?, if so check the basics, the fuses, circuit breakers are usually for door locks or power windows/headlights type circuits,
