SOURCE: 1996 ford explorer needs new head gaskets

I would put the money into the vehicle. Do you really want to go thousands into debt to purchase another vehicle? Cheaper to fix than replace. If the vehicle is in good shape all around I would repair it. If you are going to do the work yourself it will cost lots less than the 2000. If you do the work have the heads milled and replace the stem seals and knurl the valve guides at the same time. Also check for weak or broken valve springs. Your local machine shop should do all this anyway. Good luck.

Parts and labor catalytic converter 2011 Chevy equinox

There is a federal warranty of 5 years on all catalytic converters. It should not cost you anything to have it replaced. You stated that it was a 2007 and then a 2011, which year is it? If it is a 2007, you are almost outside of the federal warranty.

How much should it cost to replace condenser, compressor, refill the Freon, a chip filter, and labor for the A/C in a Camry 04? Is $1,000 too much?

No, that sound reasonable, assuming they are using a new compressor and not a remanufactured one. They will not work out well.

Location of cam pos sensor on 2000 chrystler sebring lxi? thank you and how much should it cost?

The camshaft position sensor for your vehicle is located in the distributor housing. It is serviced only as a complete distributor assembly, individual parts are not available.

The manufacturer (dealer) suggested retail price (MSRP) for the distributor assembly (Part Number MD345492) is $1100.00 (US).
The standard flat-rate labor time to replace it is 0.8 hours.
(you will have to figure the labor cost depending on labor rates in your area)

AutoZone has remanufactured distributors listed for your vehicle at a cost of around $275.00.

CARDONE part number 84-49600 is a NEW distributor and lists for $425.00

Leaking rack and pinion steering unit in a 2002 infiniti i35. How do you repair and what is the estimated cost?

The only way to repair a leaking rack and pinion is to replace the rack and pinion with either a new or remanufactured unit. (Nobody sells rebuild kits for them like they used to several years ago.)
AutoZone lists a remanufactured unit for $452.99 plus a $115.00 core charge. Click HERE for more information.

If you are having a professional shop do the job, they will most likely charge you the standard labor time multiplied by the shop labor rate + alignment charges. This can vary considerably depending on the area where you live and what shop you take it to. The standard labor time to perform rack and pinion replacement on your vehicle is 5.5 hours. (Does not include alignment)

The labor rate in my area averages about $95 per hour. A wheel alignment can be done for about $70.
The total job would run $1045.99 + taxes and charges for shop supplies, which would put it right in the neighborhood of $1100.00.

Replace motor on power window on drivers front

the car is 12 years old, all the regulators have done their job, especially the driver door. go to a parts store and buy a new regulator, or buy one on ebay, and pay a glass shop to install it. it makes no sense to put a new motor in a used regulator, the gearing will finish stripping out next year and you will have the labor cost again. The labor to remove and replace the motor in the regulator, usually riveted in, is much more than just pulling and tossing the old regulator and installing a new one. once you have replaced a regulator you would gladly pay anyone twice the 50 bucks a glass store charges for this job. they have the tools, the fasteners and the expertise.

How to replace the left front window motor

Buy the whole new regulator, not just the motor as regulators generally have a gear or teeth which interact with the motor and strip with age. Also the labor in taking old motor off the regulator and putting the new one on will cost more than the regulator itself. These are much cheaper on ebay and
parts stores than from a dealer. Take it to an auto glass shop and let them do it, they have the tools, knowledge, fasteners which you do not. Labor cost about 60 bucks and after you try doing one of these yourself, you would pay twice that much to avoid doing it again..

2001 toyota corolla, theres a hole in cylinder #2

you can have the engine rebuilt but the labor cost to do something like that isn't worth it. you can get a remanufactured engine with a better warranty for cheaper. you will also need to address the reason the piston burnt through, so it does happen on new motor.....remember to vote :)

The solenoid will not work, I had a friend tap it with a screwdriver and my car will now start. I took it to a mechanic who said I have to have a solenoid and starter motor installed as the solenoid alone...

A remanufactured starter would be your best bet because you have to pay the same labor to replace solenoid as you would entire starter and the starter will come with a warranty. The starter should cost between 120 and 170, and the labor should only be about 80 to 100 dollars. Good luck

Was told I need a new motor for my 1999 dodge durango, can you estimate how much it will cost?

There are several variables present here. First, are you replacing Just the engine short-block? or are you doing a Long-block? (Includes cylinder heads)
Then there is the question of if you want to replace it with a used engine or a remanufactured engine.
Depending on the shop performing the repairs, a used engine can cost less than half the cost of a remanufactured engine. ( The installer stuffs it into your vehicle pretty much the way it came from the salvage yard) or a used engine can cost almost the same as a remanufactured engine. (The installer strips the engine from the salvage yard and transfers all engine accessories, including intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, oil pan, sensors, etc. from your original engine. - this is the better way, but it adds labor costs)
Most used engines will have only a 90 day warranty. Some salvage yards will only give you 30 days.
Remanufactured engines vary from 12 months or 12,000 miles all the way to 3 years or 100,000 miles for the high-end ones like Jasper.
You need to determine what is important to you. Do you want it as cheap as possible? or do you need a good warranty on the thing after you have spent your hard-earned money on getting it replaced?
The actual price can vary by thousands of dollars. Your best bet is to get a reputable shop that does engine replacements to give you 3 estimates. (If they won't do 3 estimates, you probably don't want them working on your truck.)
When I do engine replacement estimates for my customers, I usually give them all the options. I will write-up an estimate based on a used engine, then I will write one based on a low-end remanufactured engine, then I will write another one based on a Jasper Engine. I make sure they understand the warranty differences of each option. Then I let the customer decide the coarse of action.

In my opinion, Jasper has the best warranty in the business. They put ALL of their engines on a dynomometer for testing before they leave their facilities. They are nation-wide, and I have never had any problems getting my customers taken care of in the event of a warranty claim - even when they were clear across the country on vacation/business when a problem occured. Jasper is the only remanufacturer that I am aware of that will pay the labor to repair the engine if it has a problem. You will, however, pay dearly for this warranty.
In any event, it is still cheaper than buying a new truck.

Toyota rav maintenance

Sounds extortionate to me. You can expect that for dealer prices perhaps but $750 for an alternator! The alternator itself should cost around $120 to $280 for a remanufactured unit and perhaps one hour or so labor.
It looks like you have been charged much more than 1 hour for fitting. Ask your garage for a breakdown of the work carried out and the price of the parts replaced. They may have fitted an original new part which can cost a lot more.
The price of sensors also varies so find out what they charge exclusive of labor.

Marc
