Car only running on 2 cylinders

Started having this problem just the other day. where the car seemed to be missing or loosing a cylinder, but it was intermittent. now car will not idle even to 1000rpm. so i have changed spark plugs and removed leads while running the vechile i found that cylinder 2 and 4 are not even running. Any help as to what to check next, leads are in good condition...thinking fuel pump or injector problem possibly???

thanks for the replys. last night i pulled all the spark plugs out and turned the motor over with the plugs touching earth to see if they were all sparking. cylinder 2 and 4 were barely sparking at all. Now if i had a coil pack problem wouldnt this prevent any of the cylinders firing? as there is only one coil for all four leads. just want to check before i buy a new coil pack. thanks

thanks for the replys. last night i pulled the spark plugs out and tested to see if i got a spark on all 4 cylinders. again 2 and 4 were not sparking. now if i had a coil pack problem wouldnt this mean there would be no spark on any of the plugs because the one coil supplies all plugs? just want to check before i buy a new coil pack. thanks

Cyl 2 and 4 are probably run off the same ignition coil. I would start by checking for spart on those cylinders.

It is not likely a fuel problem if it is only effecting 2 cylinders.

Sounds like a bad coil pack, see if you can borrow or puchase a used 1 to test for the problem. If the problem is corrected you can either keep the used 1 or buy new. Hope this helps.

With DIS ignition systems there is always 2 cylinders firing at the same time 1 fires a positive spark ( to ignite ) the other fires a ground. So in other words cylinders 1 & 3 fire together and 2 & 4 fire together. I suggest a new or used coil.

2011 polaris ranger 8oo intermittently looses a cylinder.

possible bad crank position sensor or loose wiring connection
compression will not change unless you have valve train problems ( loose rockers or broken rocker shafts)
so switching spark between cylinders or not firing a cylinder is a sensor or ignition control module problem
I suspect it is faulty wiring and harness connections , dirty, corroded or not making good contact

Number 2 cylinder misfire at idle. Runs smooth at 1000 rpms

Could be a loose connection at the plug or at the coils. Look at in the dark and see if you see any spark off.

2007 Pt Cruiser I Changed spark plugs 2 weeks ago Bosch Platinum +4, car is non turbo 2.4 ltr engine. within 1 day engine light on cylinder 1 miss fire, read on the net changed plugs to Champion RE14MC...

remove the plug from the #1 cylinder, and install it into the #2 cylinder , and put plug from # 2 clyinder in to #1 plug hole, connect plug wires, and start up vehichle, and if computer shows misfire on # 2 cylinder , then you have a bad plug, possibly porcelin insulator could have a hair line crack in it, hope that this information has helped you.

300-6 cylinder runs fine cold but the farther you drive it developes a dead miss ; all tune up has been done

It may be your ignition coil. After the engine has run awhile, the coil gets hot, and starts to break up. Have you isolated this miss to 1 cylinder or does it seem to affect all cylinders?

I have a 1996 328is. After you run the engine at about 2500 rpm for a couple of minutes, it will misfire, and the reason for the misfire is it looses injector pulse to a cylinder. If you turn the car off...

The 1st thing u need to do here is run a trouble code test on the engine control system, it is called an OBD 2 trouble code test, but based on the symptom it sounds like u either have a defective camshaft or crankshaft position sensor, these sensors signal the PCM (powertrain control module) when the cylinder should receive spark and when the injectors should fire, if the signal is erratic or just stops all kinds of weird things happen, erratic fuel injector pulse for sure, but as I 1st stated a trouble code test is needed to pin down the sensor, if no codes exist hen it is poss the PCM is defective.
