The most common reason for this to happen is low engine coolant. If that is not the reason then my next check would be the coolant flow through the heater core that is supplied by the small radiator coolant lines that are routed to the firewall.

SOURCE: Nissan Altima no cool air blowing or hot air blowing

Hi!
It appears we have an Air lock scenario and you will need to perform a system Bleed.
Park the vehicle on level ground, when cold remove coolant filler cap, start engine and leave to idle, turn heater on full and blower to max. When engine reaches operating temperature watch and listen near coolant filler, keep clear as gurgling and hopefully a boil over should occur. Top up with very warm coolant and wait as it may do it again.
Check for heat inside vehicle if warm replace coolant cap but keep an eye on temperature gauge as the ~Air lock may have moved on from heater matrix/core so proceedure needs to be carried out again from COLD.

SOURCE: nissan dealer claims they replaced the heater pump

Yes, your Nissan Pathfinder has a heater pump. The heater pump circulates the hot coolant from your engine to your heater core(s). You have two heater cores if you have rear temperature controls. My guess is that your problem was that you had very little heat or no heat at idle. Attached is the page from the service manual on how to replace it.

Check your coolant level. If it is low, what you describe will happen. Water pump works faster as rpm's increase, managing to get hot coolant to heater core (highway speeds). At idle, pump is not working fast enough to get the coolant to the heater core.

How come I can't get the heater to blow hot air only cold on NY Nissan pathfinder 97

Probably a problem with the controls (broken wire/cable) or the diverter/flap in the duct. Its stuck on cold. Find the diverter and look for what controls it. Make sure it moves or see why it wont. May have to remove glove box.

Heater blow cold air when car is idling

Either your engine coolant level is low or you have a defective water pump. If the coolant level is low, I would recommend pressure testing your cooling system to find out why.

2005 Pathfinder Heat Flow problem

I am having/had the same problem. My rear heater has not worked the last 2 winters, still trying to figure that one out. But I think I solved the front heat problem myself. The heater was blowing cold air while idling and hot air when the car was moving.

I jacked up the front of the vehicle, took the cap off of the reserve tank for the radiator, turned the car on and ran the heat (AC off) for 15 minutes. This is supposed to release any air bubbles in the coolant system and I did see air bubbles emerge as I was watching (this might be normal occurance, I'm far from a mechanical expert). Anyway, this did not immediately solve the problem, still blowing cold air as it sat there idling after 15 minutes. Dejected, I put the cap back on, lowered the vehicle and resigned myself to taking it to a dealer.

But a funny thing happened the next day, the coolant level was a lower (no leaks on the floor) so I filled up, and sure enough, when I started the car and let it warm up a little, hot air started coming out of the heater!!!

As far as my wife knows, I fixed the problem for the price of a bottle of coolant, so I am a hero...but at first I thought it didn't work. Here we are a month later and still blowing warm air and haven't had to replace any more coolant...the internet is a wonderful thing!

Hope this works for you, and I hope I can figure out my rear heater problem as well.

2004 nissan pathfinder fan noise

I had the same problem in my Pathfinder a couple months ago. It's most likely your fan clutch. I had mine replaced, and the noise went away. And it seems that it is the cold weather causes this.

1997 Pathfinder only blows cold air

Sounds like one of 2 problems - Either - and best - sounds like an air mix door (or Heater control valve) is stuck in the closed (or cool) position - a fairly easy thing to repair, but sometimes a bit difficult to get to - some mix doors are near the evaporator box under the dash, and other heater control valves are under the hood (fairly easy to access), they it allow hot coolant to flow through the heater core, where air is blown by athe hot core to provide heat. The worst of the possibilities is that the heater core its-self is clogged and not allowing hot coolant to flow through, in which case, the dash (alot of the time) has to be removed to replace it. A good repair shop can actually save you a bit of money here, if they are familiar with P-finders and how they come apart, not to mention that an experienced tech doesn't have "left-over" fasteners. Bad squeaks and noises can come from an incorrectly re-installed dashboard, and often alot of time can be save as well - and we know time is money - godd luck and I hope this helps a bit at least!!! 1995 Nissan pathfinder over heating blowing cold air.

Sounds like either your thermostat, which is the least expensive and easiest thing to change, or your water pump, or clogged radiator, which is a whole new world! The reason it wont blow hot, is because you are not getting any water to the heater core. Hope this helps.
