Probably behind the timing cover near your crank pulley, or, maybe it runs a cam sensor? good luck.

SOURCE: Crank shaft sensor

If it is the front wheel drive model, it is in the back side of the motor looking up at it....simple to change.....the side that faces the cab of the vehicle.

Will crank sensor causes fuel injectors not to fire?

On Multi point fuel injector cars where the sequential actuation of the fuel injectors occur the timing is triggered from the Crank Shaft position sensor.

The cam shaft is an also key sensor providing the crank shaft rotation sequence first or second rotation to provide the complete timing function

Without these two sensors no spark or fuel.

An engine code will be recorded will provide the culprit if one has failed.

Hope this helps.

I have a 2001 ml320 and takes a least two to three attemps to get it to turn over, i've changed the fuel pump as well as the fuel filter, what else could cause this to happen?

To turn over or start? I would suggest crank position sensor as it is a reoccuring pproblem which sends no fault to the engine computer.

Where is the crank sensor located on a chevy malibu 2001

It should be down near the crankshaft pulley. Remove the the right front wheel and the splash shield, it should be there next to the pulley.
