The clutch on that vehicle is hydraulic so cannot be adjusted. Did you disconnect the gearshift cables?
try these web links. https://youtu.be/sheTKD03hmo
There should be about 3/4" play in the clutch pedal if there isn't the clutch operation will affect the clutch performance. The over adjustment throws the release bearing further into the clutch pressure plate and this in turn will damage the pressure plate
i used to drive a mk2 golf but now drive a mk1 and i had the same problem, especially when am turning. with my case when i had the rattling problem the cv joint boots needed to be replaced as they were worn out. that is one possible answer to your question. if youre DIY guy you might wanna check that out or go to your mechanic and he might tell you the same thing.
you ride the clutch excessively ,and slip the clutch between changes ,i can make a clutch last for 200,000kms ,but i have customer who has a new clutch every 6 mths to a year and he does just over 1000kms in that time .he will not use first gear and doesnt change down just rides the clutch to go up hill .he clls it clutch control ,i do not care because i make good money from this cantankerous person who knows how to drive with clutch control ,he even holds it on a hill on the clutch instead of putting handbrake on and then gearbox in neutral -I am just fitting him another clutch today ,the last one was easter last year .
it sounds like your clutch release bearing has or is colapsing.when you press the clutch the release bearing is under the most load hence the noise.gearbox out i,m afraid. Can you still get gears ok ?.Also the pedal box,s are prone to break on polo,s ,the symptom for that is like a squashy pedal and hard to get gears.if you can look up at the top of the clutch pedal where the cable mounts see if the bracket the cable fits in to is broken away at the top.
if the blower motor is gone u will get no air cold or hot.
If it is the switch you would hear the blower but maybe get no hot but just cold air or vice versa.
