Question about 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

99 Grand Prix GT stalls when MAF is connected

My 99 Grand Prix GT was running fine and then when I turned it off and tried to start it when leaving somewhere, it wouldn't work. It was like it would ONLY run when cold. If it warmed up, it would stall out. We have changed the Cat. Converter and it is still running poorly. If I unplug the MAF sensor, it runs fine but tries to stall. BUT if it is plugged in, it won't even idle. I don't know if it is truly the MAF sensor or if it is just something else causing this problem.

Had the same problem. Replaced everything on this car including fuel pump, computer and every single sensor! Still the same! Called a GM mechanic friend, in 2seconds he said you have a bad injector! Pulled them all out, cleaned them up, all tested good cold. Put them in pie pan, into the oven @250 for 30min. retested , found 1 bad another going. 1 bad will shut engine down when it gets warm! should have about 1.5 ohms resistence.

Why is my Grand Prix surging/stalling when ideling?

If you did not disconnect the battery and drain the voltage from the ECM, it could be using old settings when the problem existed.
When a problem occurs, the computer tries to correct it or find new settings to work around the problem. When you fix a problem you have to clear the codes and sometimes erase the memory from the computer to allow it to start back at the factory settings.
When you disconnect something and the check engine light comes on, the computer goes into limp mode and uses values for the sensors preset by the factory. The car will almost always run rich to ensure the driver can get back to a place for repairs.

Hi, you can try cleaning the MAF sensor, but you probably need a new one. Fortunately you can get one for only $70 at autozone. This is cheap compared to other MAF sensors I've seen.
First check the connection on the sensor. If good, remove the sensor and spray thru the mesh with electric parts cleaner. Reinstall and see if it's any better. If not, replace the sensor.
Not sure if the MAP sensor is bad or not. Can you tell us the exact codes you got, as there are several different ones for each sensor?

Id say maf again, due to the previous instance, however on a 3.8 i wouldnt be above checking the fuel pressure regulator for seeping through the vacuum hole. The boss has a 00 impala with a 3800 and my wife does both with 230k roughly on each, seen quite a few of those regulators and maf's over that time.

My 1999 grand prix stalls and dies at stops.

My Pontiac Grand Prix is also a 99, it has 216,+ thousand miles on it, it runs great, idles good, I need to replace the oxygen sensor tho as it shuts off on me while driving or sometimes coming to a stop. You might try checking the fuel filter and pump as well.

99 Pontiac Grand Prix. When car slows down or

There are SO many things that could be to blame, such as a relay sticking in the Engine Management System, which controls fuel cut-off on deceleration, for example.

Have you changed the fuel filter yet?
If it's the original on a 99 model and a previous owner has run the tank dry, it will have sucked dirt into the filter.

Otherwise, the fuel pump may not be working efficiently.
Does the engine sound ok and maintain steady revs, around 850/900rpm when it's started up?

P0102 Grand Prix

P0102 is ---- mass or volume air flow circuit, low input.
Check the wires going to the maf sensor and at the connection. If all seems ok, you might need a new sensor, seeing how it ran a little better when disconnected.

check all fuses for turn signal and brake lights.change fuel filter . first. do a little tune up change spark plugs and wires . if changing fuel filter dont help. have fuel pressure check first before buying a new fuel pump .they run after taxes 400.00 dollars. your fuel pressure should be 41 to 47 psi. replace fuel pump relay also.
