    Circuit Description (BCM Controlled)
Moving the ignition to the START position signals the body control module (BCM) that engine crank has been requested. The BCM verifies that theft is not active and sends a serial data message to the powertrain control module (PCM) requesting engine start. The BCM also energizes the RUN/CRANK RELAY. When the RUN/CRANK RELAY switch side closes, and the vehicle is in Park or Neutral or with the clutch is fully depressed, if equipped, supplies voltage to the starter relay coil. The PCM verifies the transmission is in Park or Neutral and the clutch is fully depressed, if equipped. The PCM will then ground the control circuit of the starter relay, closing the switch supplying voltage to the starter solenoid. On some vehicles the starter will continue to crank the engine with the key released until it starts of the crank command has timed out to prevent excessive heat build up in the starter circuitry or the PCM receives an engine run flag.

    Circuit Description (ECM/PCM Controlled)
Moving the ignition switch to the START position sends a 12-volt signal to the engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM) Crank Request circuit. The ECM/PCM verifies that the transmission is in the PARK or NEUTRAL position. With the transmission in Park, voltage flows through the Park/Neutral position switch and feeds the starter relay coil. The PCM then grounds the control circuit of the starter relay. When the starter relay is energized it allows battery positive voltage to the starter solenoid S terminal. On some vehicles the starter will continue to crank the engine with the key released until it starts or the crank command has timed out to prevent excessive heat build up in the starter circuitry or the ECM/PCM receives an engine run flag.

SOURCE: Radio cuts out when rear window defogger is turned on(05' Altima)

I have the same problem in my 2003 Altima. I had a friend who works on cars check it out. I watched him and when he removed the panel under the steering wheel next to the driver's door you could hear a clicking noise. He said is sounds like my defogger relay/switch is bad. I located the part and it is not that expensive. I am going to purchase the part and have it put on. I will keep you posted to let you know if it solves my problem. If it does I will give you the name of the part so you can hopefully solve your issue.

SOURCE: how to check my fuse on my 05 trailblazer for the

Hi , Quicker than checking the fuse, ,,,, Check the 12volt supply to the window! One side of the window elements will be connected to EARTH (vehicle body "-") and the other will be a 12v (+) supply. The fuse will be dependant on the ignition and various power supplies. The engine should be running while testing the (+) supply. It will most unlikely be the window itself,Good Luck

My 07 chevy hhr wont start. It gives the code P1682

Causes of code P1682 are similar on all GM products and could include one or more of the following-
  • Failed, failing, or defective ignition switch (Most common)
  • Defective fuses or fuse box. Note that under some conditions, such as when the vehicle had been parked in the sun, the fuse boxes on some models would deform, which often caused wiring connections in the fuse box to break or lose contact. This particular issue is known to affect Chevy Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, and Chevy SSR models
  • Failed, defective, or malfunctioning PCM relays. Note that in cases where an ignition switch failure affected circuit 1, the reduced power feed to this relay often caused contacts in the relay to arc and burn
  • Failed, defective, or malfunctioning fuel pumps, as the result of ignition switch failures affecting circuit 2
  • Failed or failing PCM, but note that this code often mimics the effects of a failed PCM or corrupted software. Therefore, the fault must be sought elsewhere before any control module, including the PCM, is condemned

No dims, just brights? Need lights or fuse? Is there more fuse boxes than the one under the hood?

Have you tried operating headlamps in manual mode, not automatic? Do they work correctly in manual mode?
You have a low beam fuse in under hood fuse box. With headlamps on, low beam, any voltage at that fuse circuit? Even if the fuse is good, if no voltage on fuse circuit, the circuit is still dead.
Any applicable trouble codes? Some of the national brand auto stores will check codes for free.
My info shows second fuse box under rear seat.

Firebird troubleshooting

Sounds as if possibly your ignition switch, main relay, a blown fuse or you have a fusible link that has opened. You should first load test the battery to make sure the voltage doesn't drop out under load. It might be cranking when shunted but the voltage may be too low to provide adequate spark or operate the ECU. However you should check for open fuses in the fuse box since you have no instrument panel lights. If you have no power to the instrument panel, you may not have power to the ECU or fuel system. After that you'll have to trace back from the battery.

2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS 4.2L, Vin S, Eng Cfg L6
Customer Concern: No blower motor function. AntiLock Brake System (ABS), Red Brake Warning Light (RBWL), Traction lights all on. Radio does not work. Tests/Procedures: 1. Check for battery voltage at fuses #31 and 39 in Rear Fuse Box under the rear seat.

2. If the voltage value is less than battery voltage, check the Orange wire at the 48 cavity connector located at the base of the steering column at pin D1.

3. If the voltage is low at C201 check the voltage at pin "G" of the ignition switch.

Potential Causes: Ignition Switch

2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS 4.2L, Vin S, Eng Cfg L6
Customer Concern: ABS, Low track light comes on intermittently. The heater blower motor quits running, 4WD not working. No communication with the ABS. If you disconnect the ABS computer and plug it back in, it may work. Tests/Procedures: 1. Test voltage at HVAC 30A, 4WD 15A, HVAC 1 10A, BRAKE 10A, TBC RUN 3A labeled fuses in the rear fuse block during the problem.

2. Inspect connector 101 38 cavity connector mounted along the underhood bussed electrical center. This harness may be routed tightly around the underhood fuse block, causing chafing or connector terminal contact that could induce any of the concerns listed.

3. Clean and secure ground G110 located on the lower left side of the engine block. Potential Causes: Damaged Circuit 300
Damaged Connector C101
Improperly Installed Engine Compartment Harness
Malfunctioning Ignition Switch

Check and see if the shift indicator is showing that it is in a drive position when the shifter is in park. This will cause the vehicle to not start because the computer thinks it is in gear and not allow power to the starter. The problem is the ignition switch. Also check the neutral safety switch on the side to the transmission. This is a 12 pin connector. The number 11 pin is power to the safety switch,12 is crank voltage, and 1 is starter relay coil supply voltage.Hope this helps.Good luck.

02 chevy trailblazer 4.2l car wont start installed new starter still wont crank or start test fuses all are good lights and horn operate but no start could it be the ignition switch not giving power to the...

You need to establish that you have 12v in the battery and that all connections are clean and secure. Lights horn etc do not give you voltage verification...your starter uses more amperage than anything else in the car. Once you are certain that everything is OK, check for 12v at the small wire on the starter with the key turned to start. If no volts, check the neutral safety switch or clutch switch Then check ignition switch for power in/out.
