Question about 2000 Ford Contour

Vic. battery light began to flicker, after about 50 miles of highway driving the vic. stopped running and all I could get was a clicking sound when I turned the key.Need the fuse scamatic to check it before i replace the alternator. Do you have the fuse diagram.

More than likely the alternator is bad. Pull it and have it checked at a rebuilder or a reputable parts house. These things are bad about the regulator going bad. It is built into the alternator.

i can only guess at your cars options, so will get all this wrong.
but ill look at wring to vic.
the cluster 8w-40 chapter
is 100% digital in that all data is sent from pcm to cluster
via serial bus, ccd paired network
so the question is,when the pcm boots, and the cluster is dead
how angry will pcm be, answer, is wild guessing, no skim
is it runs. and barfs dtc errors, like mad(it will)
one way to kill pcm is if that pcm/bcm (some do) can not sync
the odometer, so it sees that is hacking (miles total) and shuts you down. some years do, mine does.
but all years and all options, dang you stumped me;.

as you may not know, added security options cause most jeeps
to go to ligher levels of crosschecking
and then cuts fuel if hacking is detected.

I have a 99 Ford escort zx2 and it only does it occasionally, but if I'm going on a highway at 65 MPH, it wants to slow down and only go around 50 MPH. Sometimes the wheel locks up and service engine...


Sounds like a week fuel pump have the pressure checked at a local repair shop. Also if it has a lot of miles on it the catalytic converter could be stopped up also have the local shop check it out it is real easy to check.

Definitely have to remove the driveshaft on a rwd crown vic, or you have to leave the engine running and the car in neutral to keep the transmission lubricated

I had a routine tire rotation and car alignment on yesterday. As I drove my car later in the evening, the vsc/ecm dash light came on, followed by the brake and battery light, radio and dash lamp lights...


Sounds like you lost the charge from the alternator.
When the alternator quits charging your battery light comes on and your car will run on battery power only...and only for a short time.
As the battery gets its stored energy used up...everything that is electrical will get slow or dim.

I'd check your alternator for proper operation and its drive belt...

How big is the gas tank on a 1992 ford crown vic. how many miles to the gallon. my gas gauge doesnt work. so i dont know anything about the gas.

Fuel tank capacity is 20 gallons (US).

Your fuel consumption will be affected by many factors, such as :
- how you drive the vehicle
- the condition and tune of the motor
- driving conditions (traffic, city use, highway use etc)
- tire pressures
- type and grade of fuel used .

It is impossible for me to estimate what fuel consumption you can expect from your own particular car without a whole lot of information.

It's unwise to run the vehicle for long with no working fuel gauge.

I would try to replace your spark plugs, and spark plug wires, My 88 Vic did the same thing...now it runs like a champ....you could also try fuel injector cleaner.

Engine won't crank after replacing alternator - battery charged


If the start is not grounded it will not turn over the motor check battery cables going to start. There are no reset switches .

Check the starter solenoid. Usually mounted on a fender well. Find by following the + battery cable.
