Question about 2000 GMC Jimmy
My jimmy doesn't start in the morning but if i come back to it in the afternoon it hits right up without even getting in to it. Fuel filter and pump are new. Has a quadrajet carb which is clean. Heard carbs are garbage on these but it runs so well when its running leading me away from that. Has emmissions system no air pump. All hoses and vacuum lines plugged. Replaced accel supercoil which burned through top of distributor cap back to delco remy oem part. Have been told that condensation under distributor cap coulb be related but cap is dry always. cannot figure it out really odd! Have any ideas?
There are A Few Important things here to Eliminate as Possible Problem, SECONDARY IGNITION SYSTEM From the ROTOR BUTTON OUT Must be In Very Good Shape. Also The Timing Should be Acceptable. IF it is the Carberator that IS the Problem ,It is Going to Be The FLOAT LEVEL Being too LOW Will Cause this, Choke ADJUSTMENT also. And Carberator CLAD Engines are FINE for PERFORMANCE, It's the MPG they give You that May Garbage.Anyways If you have Hi Millage on this CARB. It May Be time for a REPLACEMENT Now as they DO Wear out and ARE NOT "DIY" Friendly at All, Took ME about 1 Year to MASTER Rebuilding them.. You Have A Good Start on the FUEL System with the NEW Parts there So It Should Be Easy to Run through with A REALLY GOOD VISUAL INSPECTION of ALL IGNITION PARTS, Im Hoping this Is Going to Help Steer you towards A Diagnosis. I Suspect it Will, Feel FREE to Reply with Any more Questions I Will Be Happy to HELP ! Have A Good Day ! .

Pull the air-cleaner off and see if the choke sets when you press the gas pedal once cold, they get gummed up and stick, these are not junk carbs but they must be kept clean and free to operate correctly, if the choke desn't set see if you can move it by hand, is so get a can of carburetor spray and clean the choke linkage, that should get all to work again and solve the problem.
