There are 2 red wires at the solenoid. 1 goes to the battery +, and the second goes to the starter.

2005 starter wiring diagrams from ignition switch to starter soliniod

The ignition switch does not go to the starter solenoid . Pin 87 at the starter relay sends B+ voltage to the starter relay . Do you know what a starter relay is an how it works ? The ignition switch is an input to the PCM - engine computer . When the PCM sees this B+ voltage from the switch it energizes the starter relay sending B+ voltage to the starter solenoid . http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html free wiring diagrams !

Replace starter fuse

That would be afirst. There is no such thing as a starter fuse. Starter motors draw more than 100 amps so they are wired direct from battery ground to the starter, from battery positive to starter soliniod, from starter soliniod to starter motor.

A 2002 Kia Spectra. When trying to get up to highway speed, it seems to not shift into the highest gear and will turn about 3200 rpm for 55 mph. In addition, the driver seems to have to accelerate more...

sounds like the trani is in limp mode take it to autozone and have the codes checked in the trani. I am sure it will tell you that there is a lack of comunication to the shift soliniods, if so pull the large wire harnes that is connected to the trani and clean the connection reconnect and try again. that should clear it up, if not look at buying a set of shift soliniods.

Battery s good but no power to the volt meter on dash and no start I think its the starter or soliniod ?

first check the wires on the starter solenoid for corrosion on the connection on the solenoid the solenoid being bad would not cause the amp gauge not to work.it just would not engage the starter.
