Question about Lincoln Cars & Trucks
There is almost certainly a switch that tells the brain the luggage compartment is closed and it is likely the switch is faulty or there is a wiring or connection problem.
The switch might be buried in the catch or be integrated into the central locking system.

Try spraying WD-40 into the door latching mechanism (door side). I learned this fix after two battery replacements, but have only had to spray twice in the more than seven years of ownership

There is a black flat switch handle immediately to the right side of the latch. Press that switch handle and the latch will make a noise and rise slightly. Then when you shut the deck, the switch activates and recesses, pulling the deck lid down to the fully closed position.
Hope this helps

SOURCE: Trunk wont pull shut.
You have a pull down switch that activates the pull down motor for the trunk lid to close. The manufacture of this part supplies this to Ford & General Motors vehicles. You can go to a Cadillac dealership & purchase this part far cheaper than at Ford. I use to work at a GM dearlership & my neighboring Ford dealer would order this part from me for the cost of mine where less than the cost from Ford. Figure those guys out at Ford. No wonder they don't need a goverment bailout
