Open Question

Im having a difficult time removing the brake booster from a 1997 Aurora Oldsmobile. Its all loose, but cant take it out. There is not enough clearance to come out. Any Ideas?

    Did you remove the master cylinder first? Can you post a pic?

i found it best to remove radiator first before trying to tackle the alternator... once that is removed then you can easily get to it to unloosen bolt and swap

SOURCE: 1997 FORD F250 XLT 4WD - Had a hard brake pedal with hardly any brakes while standing on them. Replaced booster and wheel cylinders at same time now the pedal is mushy and no brakes.

They need to be bleed again all four wheels but your vacuum pump may be bad since diesels don't have vacuum then have to have a pump, check that the booster one way check valve is good if you can blow thew it both ways it's bad, to bleed start from the wheel farthest away from the master cylinder pump the brakes 5 times and hold down then open the bleed valve keep doing this until you get clear fluid out of each wheel once you have done that if it is still mushy and you know you have vacuum re bleed with engine running this will help push more out with power assist. most like the hard brake pedal had to do with no vacuum check out the pump. You may also have to reset the 2 way check valve if you need help with this let me know.

Could be the motor or the blower motor resistors. I would go with the resistors first.

Brake booster from 1997 vw jetta removal instructions

Hi. Ther is a special tool for this, but it is clumsy and difficult. The plastic retainer is cheap enough to just break it out and fit a new one in place. fit it into the pedal first then clip the rod in otherwise the rod breaks through the clip before it seats into the pedal.

turn the key on, ( not start just to the on position, while on, press the brake petal 3 times all the way down, and then turn the key off, you might have to do this a couple of times, but it should reset

I have a 1997 oldsmobile aurora and the problem is when im going slow or at a complete stop the wheel is very hard to turn to the right but it has no problem whennim driving and never gives me a hard time...

The rack and pinion needs to be replaced to rectify the one side turning easily and the other side not turning so easily. It's like a flapper in the rack and pinion, I think.

There must be enough pressure built up by the power steering pump if it goes easily at a stop when one turns left.

How to replace a starter on an 97 olds aurora with a northstar 4.0

Not sure how different, but on the 2001 4.0 you remove the fuel rails and intake manifold. Starter is under the intake manifold. Not too difficult of a job.

When i push the brakes the rpm rise up high and i have to hold the brake down harder why?

There is either an air leak to the brake vacuum booster or the brake booster itself is leaking.If its a leak to the booster there is a hose from it to the motor.You may be able to pick up the sound a air being sucked through a cracked hose or fitting.The booster itself should only be fixed by a specialist brake mechanic.The reason the revs go up is the leak makes the air/fuel mixture lean out and that causes the rise.Hope this helps

I ust replaced the brake booster and master cylinder on a 95 aurora and now it sounds like a vacuum cleaner under the dashboard. what did i do wrong?

the brake booster is 'powered' by engine vacuum from the intake manifold.check connections;hoses at booster assembly;check under dash for the source of sound.
