You need to locate the dipstick for the trans, which is normally on the passenger side in the rear or side of the engine. It should be identified as such and with the car running check it the same as you would the oil, just be sure the engine is running.

SOURCE: transmission fluid

This transmission will use any transmission fluid that is at your local auto parts store. this town cars trans is universal when it comes to the fluid grade.

SOURCE: Transmission fluid type and level

This is complicated.... Ok, your right, no dip stick is there! This is how it works.
Underneath the car, there is a plug (11mm) on the transmission case on the passenger side. It is about 3" up from the pan edge and on the front side of the case. With the engine running in PARK, remove this plug. If trans fuild doesn't run out of the hole, the level is low. Pour it in the hole on top (where the red cap is) until the fluid runs out - all while the car is running. Once it is roughly dribbling out, the trans is considered full. replace plug. Your done!!

SOURCE: how can i check to transmission fluid level in 2005 ford explorer

Does not have a dip stick.

Start the vehicle set park brake

In the side if the transmission oil pan a bigger bolt with a small bolt in the center.

Remove smaller center bolt trans fluid should drip out at a fairly constant rate if not its low.

Hope this tip helps.

Lincoln town car overdrive

Easy, most likely problem is low transmission fluid. Your owners manual will tell you how to check that if you are not certain. If the level is okay, there are many, many, many other things that could be wrong. Most transmission shops will test it for you, no charge; but they usually will want to rebuild your transmission. It seems they no longer fix a specific problem, they just rebuild. This old of a car... maybe it's time. I hope this is helpful.

97 town car not shifting from 1st to 2nd gear

Check the Coolant (antifreeze) level. My 94 continental has a hard time shifting from 2nd to 3rd when the level is low. Also, this may indicate that the transmission fluid is too old to work properly. The transmission fluid is cooled at the bottom of the radiator, since cool fluid works better than hot fluid (especially when the trans fluid is old) that could make the transmission not shift properly. Keep the coolant level up until you can have the trans fluid checked.

The gas and the brake peddle adjustment dont work on my 2003 town car

There is no real adjustment required. It sounds as though you either need brake fluid or you have air in the brake line(s). Check your fluid level and if there is fluid, the brakes have to be bled.

You can easily bleed your brakes with a one man brake bleed kit obtainable at your local auto parts store for no more than $10. It should take you no more than thirty minutes to bleed the front and rear lines.

Transmission slipping on my lincoln,1994 town car

Assuming the transmission fluid level is good and the fluid is not brown and giving off a burning smell, you may have a transmission that's getting old and will slip from time to time. There may be a band adjustment you can have done but if the transmission is original, 17years is pretty old for a transmission.

My transmission on my 1999 lincoln continental stats to slip once i'm on the freeway. other than that it is orking fine in town

Check your fluid level first. Next, you may want to get a filter job on it....but try checking your fluid level first with engine temp at normal...or have been running for at least 5 to 10 minutes. Sounds as though you have low fluid.
