Question about Dodge Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

1994 Dodge Shadow, Base, 2.5 engine, automatic trans has only one Speed Sensor. The output Sensor, the one that goes to the speedometer. is the only one on this car.

All of the information that I find says it has two sensors. the input and the output. . I can not find a input sensor. I even took it to a garage and they said it does not have one. If this is true, why does the parts house all list the input Sensor for this car?

The 1994 Shadow came with a standard 3 speed automatic (A413), and with an optional 4 speed automatic (A604). If your shadow has the 3 speed, it has only one - the output sensor (VSS). Only if you have the 4 speed it does have both the output sensor and input sensor. The input sensor is about six inches to the left of the output sensor at the same level on the transmission.

I would start the engine and let it warm up. Once it is warm spray some WD-40 around the intake manifold gaskets and around all vacuum lines and fitting you can get to. If you hear the engine start to stumble, concentrate the spray on that area until you are able to pinpoint the fault.

Speedometer behaves erratically (needles shoots down to 0) and forces transmission into limp in mode while driving.

the output speed sensor is going bad,or may have a broken wire on the connector.repair r the wire if so,or replace the sensor.Transmission goes into limp mode to protect it'self, and engine, from internal damage. repair this, and you should be good

It goes into trans just behind engine block. If yours trans is on the drivers side than lean over fender look between engine block and firewall. If other side lean over that fender and due the same.

L994 cheverolet silverado 4by4 automatic trans--intermitant transmission problem --won't shift up to next gears out of low--also the speedometer goes dead and the break warning light comes on--after some...

Check the multi-pin connector that goes to the side of the transmission. Make sure that it isn't dirty, bent or corroded. If it is, that's what could be causing the problem. (Mine got bent by 4x4ing and it wouldn't shift properly after that. Once I replaced it with a harness from the auto wrecker, worked like a charm.)

Transmission wont change past 2 and speedometer wont work all happened at the same time and check engine light is on

i would pull the codes with a scanner first so youre going in the right direction-however, from my experience this car has possibly 2 speed sensors- one is called an input sensor and is probably near where one of the axles goes into the trans. the other is the VSS- vehicle speed sensor. if either one is faulty it could set a check engine lite, and the trans uses these sensors to determine shifting points as well as making the speedo work. keep me posted.
