Question about Cadillac Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I own a 1999 cadillac eldorado. it had been sitting and the battery drained. the car worked fine. i mistakenly placed the wrong jumper cable onto the opposite terminal for about 4 seconds.

After i jumped the car and started it. my windows dont roll down the trunk button does not work nor the fuel door button. the cig lighter doesnt work either. now when i start the car it takes about 40 seconds for the dash lights and radio to turn on and i think the fan isnt turning on either to cool the engine! any help at all is needed!

You probably fried a control module , It doesn't take long ! Would need to hook up a professional scan tool that can communicate with all the modules . Check codes the BCM - body control system . Without testing we would only be guessing . Your best bet would be to take it to a qualified repair shop . Your looking at major bucks . I have worked at cadillac an have see this before ! Control Module Diagnostics with John Anello
Sorry but there is no way you'll be able to fix this !
This vehicle has electronic components which the service technician controls in order to provide valuable self-diagnostic information. These components are part of an electrical network that controls various engine subsystems and various body subsystems. A description of each of these subsystems is in the appropriate subsection of this service manual. These major components that compromise the computer system monitor the system sensors and the system switches. These components are the following:
• The powertrain control module (PCM)
• The instrument cluster
• The air controller module (ACM)
• The sensing and diagnostic module (SDM)
• The electronic brake and traction control module (EBTCM)
• The continuously variable road sensing suspension module (CVRSS)
• The body control module (PZM)
• The integrated radio controller (IRC)
• The remote function actuator (RFA)
• The climate control panel (CCP)
• The cellular telephone (PHN)
System Functions
The body control module (PZM) performs the following functions:
• HVAC afterblow control
• Battery guard
• Door lock and unlock
• Fuel level
• Retained accessory power (RAP)
• Theft deterrent
• Exterior lighting control
• Interior lighting control
• Trunk release
• Time of day for the radio display
• Rear defogger
• Fuel door release
• Vehicle personalization
For more information about these functions refer to the appropriate sections.

SOURCE: Electrical Problem for a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer

Hey everyone with this problem! Theres a fuse under the hood in the front of the fuse box. Its black and its not in the bow itself but under the cover though! two nuts hold it in place where your cable line comes in from the battery. The fuse costs $15.00 avg. most anyplace! Easy to change and everything will work inside your vehicle! Without it the vehicle will start and run but you will have no functions on the interior, or dash!

SOURCE: 06 pontiac grand prix wont start no clicking when you turn the key over even jump starting the battery, has dash lights & radio & parking lights. battery tested good. put a used starter & altinator on

Used parts such as starters and altinators don't last. It might **** but it sounds like you need to buy a new starter, altinator, and battery. Or just start with buying one at a time.

My 1997 cadillac eldorado has a hard time starting after sitting, but runs fine once started

Check the battery condition. This can easily be done with a battery tester. It may be under load and the batter has a bad cell or a cell that is going. Also the starter may be overloading the system. Also an easy test with a load tester.

1992 Cadillac Eldorado Froze up, Won't turn over

How old is the battery? I'm guessing it's the battery that sat in the car for 2 years. Check the connections for corrosion and make sure they are tight. Pull the battery out and have a parts store check it's condition (free service ). You are going to have other issues after getting any battery problems resolved. Gas goes bad quickly these days, and you will probably need to clean injectors, drain the tank, etc, also brakes may drag, due to corrosion from sitting. Good luck.

My coolant fan does not go on.

check the fuse, if good then check the thermoswitch in the radiator (it's about an inch and a half in diameter located on the lower part of the radiator with two wires ) by disconnecting the wires and touching them together (again, with engine hot...at least 190 degrees) if the fan comes on, you have a bad switch. If not connect a 10 gauge jumper wire from the battery to the fan itself... With power direct from the battery (and a ground wire, if necessary) fan should run... if not replace the fan assembly... if it does run then you have a bad cooling fan relay... Hope this helps...:-)

1999 cadillac eldorado

Just follow the Upper Radiator Hose to the Block. The Hose will attach to a Bell housing on the Manifold. Remove this Bellhousing and the Hose. The Thermostat is Right underneath the Bell Housing. Reinstall the Same way that the Old one is sitting when you find it or it will not work Properly.

Battery issues

It would take a good mechanic about 15 min.- 1/2 hr., to test your charging & starting system for you. Could be a faulty battery, or wrong battery for your car, bad connection, system not charging, or some kind of a current draw is taking place while sitting like , lights on, etc.or even a worn starter. If you have your own ( DC volts ) multimeter or a friend has one, we could walk you through what to try. What size CCA does it say on top of the battery?
