SOURCE: i have a 88 fiero 2.5L it idles beautifully but i put in in drive and it backfires then shuts off

fuel pressure? tbi needs like 14 lbs.
ECM failure is also a thought, they had a habit I recall
The backfire part is odd, would think crank sensor or lock up solonid
but it wouldn't backfire. Tough one ,hoping someone else will
chime in.

SOURCE: I have 2000 Oldsmobie Bravada that spits and sputters every time I hit the gas. I've had an induction, transmission flush, tune up (all new wires and spark plugs), new EGR valve, new throttle positio

I went through this problem, and did everything you did, even the SeaFoam. Turns out, the new distributor caps I bought were defective. I switched it out to another brand, worked for a day and then sputtered again. I read somewhere that (FOR THIS VEHICLE) aftermarket caps and rotors aren't manufactured correctly, causing arcing. Switched the cap and rotor to AC Delco brand, and all ran good, going on 1 year now with no problems.

SOURCE: 2002 dodge caravan jerks on reverse an drive..gave a tuneup..new gas filter//cleaned the throttle body//I don't know what's wrong on it..help

jerking can be a number of things, as you say you have cleaned the throttle body new filter for the fuel, when cleaning its best to change the air filter or at least checking it to make sure its clean and not blocked up. you can also sometime inadvertently dislodge something in the fuel line and this can limit the fuel, but i would thing it would show more signs, it could need the spark plugs cleaning, it could be a build up of carbon on the plugs and now the system is cleaner the mix is not igniting good, so i would check and clean them, lower rev's need a better spark. i would also check the breather lines from the cam to the intake especially the thine one as this can block up and limit the airflow into the engine. so really its just clean these parts and see if there is any change.

It should show up with a P code as it misfires. If it doesn't, check the engine temperature sensor and O2 sensor.

EGR - remove the 2 bolts that secure it to the intake ... soak it in throttle body cleaner and use a toothbrush to clean the carbon out - use a new gasket and re-install - EASY to do !! probably the most common cause of "hiccups" and "rough idle". have you cleaned the throttle body, it may be dirty. you can try by changing plugs, but it can also be a bad coil. but the light on dash would come on if it is misfiring. there are so many possabilitys for jerking. go to auto zone site and sign in, type in your problem and it should tell a few causes.

Possible dirty fuel filter. I'd start there first, as it's the cheapest route, and quite possibly replacing the filter will solve your problem.
