Could a pick up coil cause the engine to miss and stumble under load after the engine is very warmed up?

Yes.
As the component gets hot it could become unstable and stop working. Same thing with a coil or ignition module.

Have you replaced the spark plugs or coil packs? A lot of times spark plugs will only miss once a load is put on them. Here are some tips to help you narrow it down. All you need is a screw driver and a code reader.
First, is your check engine light on?

----> if yes, try to get the code it is throwing

is the code current?

----> if no
1. Pop the hood
2. Remove the air filter box cover and inspect the filter
---> is the air filter clean?
If no, replace the air filter
If yes, remove the engine cover -

3. Find the fuel rail located toward the back of the engine bay and find all 4 injectors.
Place your thumb over the end of a long flat blade screw driver, place it carefully on each injector, and place your thumb on your ear. With the engine running, listen for fires from the injector
-----> are all 4 injectors firing rapidly at the same rate?
----> if yes, start with replacing all 4 spark plugs
----> if no, replace the fuel injector that is not firing

If yes ---> is the code for an engine misfire?

See above instructions

if no ----> is the code for throttle body position?

if yes ---> Replace the throttle body position sensor and perform the relearn process via tech II scan tool.

These are the most common issues with misfiring with engines, hope it helps or leads you in the right direction.

yes bad leads will be one of the faults
run the motor in the dark raise the bonnet look for sparkle trails
on the leads

coil pack could be faulty

compression test will tell if it is a leaky valve

back fire can be running lean or timing

Yes. Gebback to us. Check for timing advance when you check timing. Also check carb mounts for leaks.

93' cavalier, very rough running. Missing badly at all speeds and loads, including at idle in park. changed plugs and no change in symptons. Is this an injected motor (4 cyl)?

Yes, this is fuel-injected engine. Look for vacuum leaks and then consider replacing the ignition coil (located on back side of the motor). Just follow the spark plug wires and you'll find it.
