2003 GMC Intermittent Starting Problem

Most of the time, car starts just fine. However, occasionally, mostly when it rains, when start is attempted, the instrument panel stays completely blank and nothing happens, no sounds or anything. It usually takes about an hour for starting to be restored at which time instrument displays/startup is completely normal. Battery is relatively new with full charge, battery terminals are clean/tight. Tried jiggling shift lever in park- no help. Changed keys, no help. Tried simulating rainy day by progressively hosing down front of car and underneath, then hosing down (cool) engine itself- no problems. I saw the recall about intermittent instrument panel problems fixed by dealer re-programming the instrument panel but that doesn't relate to starting according to the recall notice. Any ideas? Thanks, Bob

Check the other end of battery cables, may have good connection at battery but not at starter or ground. (Always check ground first, often a source of problems.)

Next time it happens, try hooking up jumper cables and see if the intrument panel lights up.

Also, check for loose fuse, not properly seated fuse. And cables to fuse block. (That model may have more than one fuse block)

Have a 2003 Mazda Tribute having intermittent starting problems. It will turn over but not start. Also it will die while driving every now and then. Have replaced IAC, fuel filter, and fuel pump works...

You need to determine what you are losing when the car won't start - either spark, or fuel.
Check for spark with a spark tester at one of the spark plugs. If no spark when attempting to start, you have an ignition system problem. If you have spark, but the car still won't start, you have a fuel delivery problem.

As when front elevated, possible small leak on fuel pipe, check connections, air getting in fuel runs back to tank, so when starting, has to pull fuel back up before starting

Kia shuma 1999 occasional starting problem; idling problem; bad smell

I would look for a loose electrical connection somewhere in the engine. Most likely an intermittent connection is sending bad information to the computer and it is setting the fuel / timing badly to try and compensate for the bad signal. Could be a bad computer too.

Try taking the car to a local autoparts store and have them read the engine codes.

My 2003 Yukon Denali has an intermittent problem with the passenger door window. It sometimes will not operate with either control. I can hear electrical clicking when either switch is activated. ...

the door window motor might be weak or has stoped working. my 2003 pass window motor went also, all others work fine still but the drivers is starting to get weak now, i tried to lube the cable and sliders but that did nothing. Replaced pass with a $60.00 used and its great.

2000 GMC Safari AWD Suddenly won't start

I have a 2002 Safari with around 220k miles. I went out of town for several days and when I came back it would not start. I eventually got it started after about an hour. This happened again when I did not driver it for a week. This time I could not start the van. The fuel pump was spinning and it was getting gas. I took off the engine couling inside the van and inspected the rotor and cap. They were completely corroded. I put in an after market set for less than 30 bucks and the van started right up. I plan on getting the wires and plugs replaced but I don't think I want to do that myself due to tight access. Good luck.
