Idles with out map sensor vacuum line then drop into gear then dies

This could be a number of things but i think that your problem sounds like a vacuum leak or an EGR problem. Try listening for leaks and try un-plugging the EGR solenoid valve one time.

Sounds like the catalytic converter or muffler are clogged. There isn't much exhaust at idle, but when you accelerate your exhaust volume increases, thus if your catalytic converter or muffler are clogged the restrict the exhaust escaping out thus causing an excess of back pressure which won't allow the engine to breathe normally.

SOURCE: Replaced PCV Hose due to vacuum leak, idle correct

If it is the same engine design as the F-150 ( think the '98 was still the 2V V-8 ) it could be the IAC ( Idle Air Control ) is gummed up.

The F-150 it is mounted on the back of the Throttle Body ( have to take off the plastic throttle body cover to see it ), held on with 2 bolts with 8mm heads ( could be 9mm ??).

Worth taking a look, also take a look at the VAC line to the back of the throttle body, and check that the IAC connector did not get unplugged or the wires damaged from the other vac line change

Every time I hook the vacuum line up to the map sensor the truck just dies but with the map sensor unhooked it will idle but not perform under load????


It's normal for this to happen. It should start back up though. When trying to restart, open the throttle all the way. If it still doesn't start, you may have to reset the codes.

Have you checked the compression in the cylinders? Low compression can cause stalling.

The idel on my 1992 chevrolet lumina 3.1 euro goes high then drops down low in park or in gear what is problem


Could becaused by a few different thing's . Map sensor , idle air control valve , a vacuum leak . Having the vehicle's scan data viewed would probably pin point the problem . Do you know what scan data is ? Is what a professional tech uses to find problems .

I have a 1988 GMC 1500 with a 305 the problem is that it wont idle I found that if I pull the vacum line off the MAP sensor it is fine for 30 seconds then dies I got a new map sensor and nothing chan


Change the PCP valve and run the heater. This should take care of it. You only have to run the heater one time as this is controlled by the vacuum system. This will cause your motor to run proper.

When starting my 95 camaro and the rpm drops to idol my car vibrates like it is not getting enough gas and acts like it will shut off


Is the RPM correct,should be 800RPM, You have a MAF (mass air flow) and a MAP sensor,also a IAC.(Idle air control) Depending on the engine size you have both a MAP and MAF, so basically you need to inspect for a broken vacuum line at the MAP sensor,you also need to look for false air,which is a broken vacuum hose affecting the idle.3_17_2012_3_31_56_am.jpg

YOU SHOULD HAVE VACUUM AT IDLE TO MAP SENSOR.WIDE OPEN THROTTLE VACUUM WILL DROP. SO YOU NEED CHECK AND REPLACE ALL VACUUM LINES ON INTAKE MANIFOLD.THATS WHERE YOUR MAP SENSOR GETS IT VACUUM FROM.

1991 302 runs like it is chocking out, I have changed the fuel filter, plugs wires rotor cap, and map censor, runs rough and worse when in gear, eating gas..help please? The truck is a 1991 f150 NITE 4x4


is it idling high and you put it i gear it runs rougher and smoke black check your coolant sensor also connection or sensor itself and fuel pressure if high check for return line blockage also vacuum leaks make sure you have the right vacuum going to your map sensor you need to check right vaccum at idle going to your map sensor/

2001 nissan sentra when idleing for a period of time idle will drop to nothing and car will start to die then rev up again...once it is put into gear levels out.


sounds as if its either a vacuum leak such as dry-rotted or cracked even the line itself has come undone causing a manifold leak which will cause this as well as it may be the fuel filter or insufficient fuel pressure a wire that is arching ...open the hood and look for the obvious first such as a wire rubbing metal or on the engine a bad plug wire can be tested by bending them for cracks as well as the same way for vacuum lines you can also use a spray bottle of water to find a wire that is arching or you can use brake cleaner to spray around the manifold and vacuum lines for when it either dies out or accelerates and you should find it this way if that is the cause however it may be the fuel filter is struggling to push gas up to the fuel bar check these areas 1st

Here are some of the causes of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
