drain coolant
unbolt thermosta housing
remove housing
out in new one, with wax side to correct side and jiggle pin up hill.
right side depends on engine options.
i never guess, or look at old one, i find the correct way and do that.
the FSM covers that.

....checked codes on 1991 town

Thanks for using FixYa and welcome to the site Clay. It could be either one of them. The only thing, there are many things that can cause this. Have you checked the fuel pressure? Could be a leaking injector. You could have a vacuum leak. It may be a MAP sensor, the Idle sensor, or the EGR. All of them are possible. What was your codes? I see the numbers but what is the detail?

My car is over heating.. I replaced the thermosta and it is still over heating.. the next step is to replace the water pump.. I would lik a picture of the the water pump on the motor so I know where it is...

I assume you have checked the cooling system to ensure that first that it is full and second that there are no leaks. Those pesky little bypass hoses tend to go hard and split if they are over 5 years old, allowing coolant loss. The over heating could also be caused by a clogged radiator.

My grand am gt get hot so fast

if you know where the thermostate is take it out place it in an old pan you can throw out fill with water place on stove and boil watch to see if its opening at rapid boil if not your thermostae is bad.Its a first place to start after you have checked to make sure antifreeze is full and isn't old and worn out should be bright green or orange depending on what type is in it.

Check the coolant level one more time, sounds like it could still be low.

2005 Corolla LE when to flush coolant and change hoses, thermosta

Change the thermostat and the fluid, that is more than enough. The hoses should be replaced if they are soft or leaking.  I'm presuming your car has 100k+ miles.  so also change the belts.
