Question about Cadillac Cars & Trucks
Do the headlamps work ,any inside lights ? Do you know anything about electronically controlled vehicles ?
Moving the ignition switch to the START position sends a 12-volt signal to the engine control module (ECM) to command starting. Battery voltage also travels through the switch side of the Run/Crank relay then through the clutch switch, if equipped with manual transmission, and on through the coil side of the Starter relay and then to the ECM. The ECM receives class 2 information from the vehicle theft deterrent (VTD) and transmission control module (TCM) to verify that all parameters are met for starting. When all parameters are met the ECM grounds the control circuit of the Starter relay closing the switch providing battery voltage to the starter solenoid through a 30 A Maxi-Fuse.
Using a factory scan tool to view itputs and outputs from the ECM is the best way to see what's missing , provided the battery is good has good connections and the battery cables are good .
The body control system consists of the following 2 modules:
• The dash integration module (DIM)
• The rear integration module (RIM)
Each of the 2 body control modules integrate a number of functional systems. Each module is connected to the class 2 serial data circuit, many of the control signals are implemented by class 2 messages.

SOURCE: CTS in dash navigation system
There is a company called PAC that specializes in modules like you describe - keeping the steering wheel controls functional with an aftermarket radio.
Click HERE to visit their site. You have to choose a compatible manufacturer. Basically - it is turning the steering wheel controls into a "remote" hidden in the dash.
CLICK HERE for the PAC installation guide for the 2006 CTS
For best results and compatibility, look for a shop in your area that carries PAC - it is a common manufacturer in the BIZ, and have them install it.
The simple answer to your question is YES as long as you use the module compatible for the brand of radio you are installing.

ok cadillac for some reason has to be difficult about these things you actually have to take the whole tail light assembly out. . .here is what youre going to need:
1. socket wrench
2. number 10 socket (gm's nut of choice)
3. patience because it is easy to drop the nut be careful
ok so you have to open the trunk then take the plastic that holds the carpet down off. you do this by unscrewing the black screw on pegs (not sure what to call these things). after you do this pull the plastic thing hard because it is being held in place by some pegs other than the ones you have already removed. then remove all the side carpeting depending on which side youre changing. ok after this look directly behind the tail light assembly for 2-3 (i forget how many) bolt like pegs (my new favorite word) these are attached to the plastic tail light assembly. then take the nuts off of these pegs and then you should be able to tug the assembly off. then you do what the others say take out the socket and replace the bulb.
like i said cadillac makes **** hard to do. if you hate this wait til you have to take the whole bumper off to replace the headlight bulbs (might want to invest in some hid lights so you wont ever have to replace them)

drain the coolant.remove belt by rotating belt tensioner cllockwise. water pump pulley will require a holding tool to keep it from turning while removing bolts. access to air ratchet can sometimes eliminate the need to hold but be careful cause thats a good way to skin some knuckles. also make installation more difficult to obtain proper torque. after pulley is off just a few water pupm mounting bolts remain. clean and dry gasket surface very well before reinstalling.

The brake light switch itself is located on the brake pedal follow it down until you see where it connects and unplug the connection ...after installation make sure the brake light switch is correctly adjusted by having a 2nd person stand behind the vehicle as you press the pedal the light should come on if not adjust the switch higher up by turning the switch inward ..or upwards by screwing it in if it constantly on unscrew it until lights go out and its fairly easy once you actually look at the part and the pedal ...i hope that helps you

My 2003 CTS would not start on the first, second or third try after filling the gas tank. Finally after several months of this occuring every two weeks a check engine light came on. It was the evac purge valve. Tom
