Can draining what fluid you can get out and replacing it with the correct fluid fix the problem or is that a was of time and money?

HI,
First, verify the transmission fluid level is correct - look in the Owner's Manual for info. 2nd get a transmission fluid replacement - do NOT do a 'chemical flush' it could make it even worse....just have them drain out ALL the old fluid and put in new fluid. Shouldn't cost more than $100. If you have any Check Engine Lights or other unusual lights on, get those checked out, too.

Per KBB.com car is worth about $2500 if you sell it yourself; dealer might give your $1500 but only $500 w/a bad transmission. A rebuilt transmission would likely cost $2000....do NOT fix it. 193K miles is a lot on any car especially an Impala. Time a for another car.

your manual will tell you all specs for oil, trans fluid etc.and yes autos have filters that need replaced. dont have to if its shifting smooth. no need to spend more money if you dont need to. why fix whats not broke.

How do i bleed the power steering pump


to drain pump. Disconnect low pressure hose let fluid run out. Reconnect hose. Fill with fluid. Start engine. Turn steering wheel all the way to the right and all the way to left. Recheck steering fluid.

Hello, since you have a Limited it probably has an oil cooler at the bottom front of the vehicle. They are usually hung ahead of the radiator.

The oil cooler is a good access point because it is the lowest point of the system. One of your lines will come from your Reservoir and the other will go to the pump. Check the Reservoir line for leaks as the plastic clips hold moisture and corrode the metal portion of the line. These small air leaks will reduce the efficiency of your pump.

Unless Ford makes a product to clean the pump, I would use the correct fluid and let the pump cycle the fluid out 1 quart at a time. Drain the Reservoir first, let the pump side drain out the cooler line, reconnect, add 1 quart, run vehicle, drain Reservoir, drain pump line, repeat. Probably waste 3 quarts of fresh fluid doing this, 1 quart at a time.

Now I understand if noise is the problem, Lube-guard makes about 8 products and the one for Power steering will reduce noise almost immediately. I have heard it work on a 2004 F150. There are also Quick lube places with pumps for Transmission fluid changes. If you want to try their system, I believe they can use adapters and hook you up.

if this problem only happens when the eco light is on, then you prob have a bad rear engine mount. these vans have active front and rear engine mounts. when the engine is in VCM mode(operating on 3cyl) the front and rear engine mounts control the engine vibrations. when the rear one goes bad it connot control the engine vibrations. the rear mount can be visually inspected for failure(if its resting on itself), or on a test drive with the active noise control turned off. or engine brake torquing.

The transmission fluid for Mitsubishis and Chryslers is imperative to have clean and to spec. You can either replace the filter and fluid by yourself or at a shop. If you do it yourself be certain to get the proper fluid. Take your time with it and have a pan ready to catch the old fluid @ 4-5 quarts or so. Be certain to replace the filter and clean the magnet (found in the pan if any) After removing the filter be certain no o-ring were left behind take note on how it came off so you can place the new one correctly. Before intalling the pan clean it out well, when placing bolt back in do not over tighten as they tap into aluminum and will strip easily, also over tightening can deform the pan. Take your time do it right. After the pan is back in added the proper fluid and amount and road test, get to temperature to check transmission fluid for final level. When in doubt ask for assistance of a friend or take it to a shop. If the pan has a drain on it I'd run the car for 100 miles or so and then drain the fluid again and replace with new. This will help insure most of the fluid is good as when you drain the tranny oil there is still quite abit in the torque converter that does not drain out. In the future I'd replace my oil/filter every 30K miles. This is cheap insurance.

How replace transmision fluid


Fluid type is Dexron ,there is a drain plug and a fill plug on the underside of the transmission. you need to use the fill plug. You can not fill the transmission fluid or check the level, any other way. You have what is known as a sealed transmission

there may be a drain plug on the pass. side of the trans if not then you can loosen about 5 or 6 of the bolts on the pan (bottom) and it will drain...becareful it is messy and will flow quickly

Change transmission fluid and filter


If I were you, I would consider a "transmission flush" be performed. Just replacing the fluid (drain the pan) will leave about 3 quarts of dirty oil in the trans system. There is no need to spend the money for a filter, the filters that Toyota uses are more like a fine mesh screen, and do not ever need replaced, like domestic cars. A complete transmission flush is exactly what you need.
