http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_identification_number

Wiki says it more concisely : "A vehicle identification number, commonly abbreviated to VIN, is a unique code including a serial number, used by the automotive industry to identify individual motor vehicles, towed vehicles, motorcycles, scooters and mopeds as defined in ISO 3833.
VINs were first used in 1954.[1] From 1954 to 1981, there was no accepted standard for these numbers, so different manufacturers used different formats.
In 1981, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the United States standardized the format.[1] It required all over-the-road-vehicles sold to contain a 17-character VIN, which does not include the letters I (i), O (o), or Q (q) (to avoid confusion with numerals 1 and 0)."

I have a 1985 travelcraft motorhome. It says..econoline 350 ford. But the vin isn't matching the year? I cant find anything about this model. I'm trying to make it legal. We just bought it..any...

The only part of the motor home that ford provided was the cab and chassis. the 10 didgit in the vin number denotes year of vehicle. the vin on the dr door should match the vin on the dash.
letter b=1981 c=1982 d =83 ect the rest of the motor home is manufactured and installed on the open chassis. I hope this helps

Where is the starter relay on a 98 ford explorer limited edition 6 cylinder 4.0? My book says on the fender next to battery but it is not there

The information you have is correct. The POSITIVE battery terminal connects to it. Just follow the battery cable and you will find it.

There are two different 4.0L V-6 engines used in Ford Explorers in the 1998 model year.
One is a Dual Overhead Cam (DOHC) engine. (VIN code "U")
The other is and Overhead Valve engine (VIN code "X")

What "VIN code" means is that the 8th digit of your VIN will be either a "U" or an "X". The 8th digit in the VIN identifies the engine that the vehicle is equipped with. You may want to use this information anytime you are talking about your truck or trying to get information or parts. These two engines are COMPLETELY different, so it can save you a lot of frustration if you give the correct information. Otherwise someone may just "assume" it is one or the other and you will get incorrect information or wrong parts.

Anyway, the actual location of the starter relay is the same for BOTH engines. The only difference is the type of cable hook-up that is on them. (see pictures below)

I bought a refurished 2008 chevy equinox, how can I tell if it has the remote starter feature in it?

Look at your title, get the VIN, call a dealer and ask for the service department. They can look up the VIN and tell you if it had it when it left the factory.

This is not a recurring problem for this truck, you just got a bad starter, get a good starter like from NAPA and you wont have to deal with this problem again.

A good start would be to get a good quality repair manual, but you can go to autozone.com and register, input the year make and model and they have a fairly good online repair guide for your car.
