1996 mercury mystique a green light comes on and it say o/d off what does this mean

It's a transmission problem. Probably a bad TCC solenoid. Worst case is the valve body.

Tip

Routine Maintenance Equals $AVINGS$

Just like our everyday lives we do things to keep our bodies healthy, we should think the same way about a vehicle we just paid on average $30,000............( That's how many paychecks?)
Regular checking of ALL fluids under the hood, if you don't know familiarize yourself with these important items....$$$ Check tire pressure at LEAST once a month...$$$. Get in the habit of listening to your vehicle when driving, turning, braking, and turning the vehicle on/off......$$$
Read through your owner's manual, a good time to do this is when sittin' in vehicle waiting on someone. To end this, just think of your car as one of the family, as dumb as it sounds, REMEMBER you've just paid $30,000 for this pesonal transporter, and with a jokin' smile........... Kids are "free"...( you know what l mean!)Good Luck and Happy, Affordable & above all SAFE driving.

Note: This Stupid thing would only let me select a certain make, so the car l put in was my car l drive a 1984 Honda Prelude, still goin' strong..(body a lil rough but hey it's 26 yrs. old for pete sake.)

Now we have 1995 explorer and transmission just quit moving vehicle while driving just barely moves if I raise RPM alot, had it towed home had three trans. B4 we owned.goin to drop pan for inspection and...

no dont rid old cars-there classic and easier to work on then new -----the 3 before probly got overheated from towing or low fluid--a pressure test should be done--autotrans a very complex and any number of parts cudda failed--the solenoid shifters etc--if transmissions were flushed the valve bodys got clogged causing perminent failure

Dashboard gauges fail & engine misfires.

Does the check engine light go on??? there have a couple possible causes for your issue, one could be a clogged fuel filter, another could be a plugged catalytic converter.

the new version or autocom cdp pro add many kinds of functions, may be it can work on your car, you can have a browse.

I have a 2001 mitsubishi mirage with 1.8l engine. transmission won't shift out of second gear. Go's in reverse but won't go forward until in second and won't shift out of second gear.

Is this an automatic trans?Does this mean that it just revs in 1st or drive unti it goes into 2nd?Shifts are determined by having sufficient trans fluid in.That the internal valve body is functioning, that external shift solenoids are working, and that the speed sensor on the trans as well as the TPS on the throttle body are working correctly.apart from this they do wear out internal parts and then do these types of things.
Check the transmission fluid level while idling in park with the handbrake on.also if the fluid smells burnt and/or looks dark,it is time for a rebuild.Could you supply some more info, what was the trans like on last drive prior to fault, did it just start up and do this or did it begin while driving?

I have an 89 gmc c1500 with a 5.0 litre 5speed trans and the other night when i got home i shut it off and a few mins later was goin to leave again and it would not go into reverse. i have a new clutch and...

It sounds like the shift linkage is badly worn where the gear lever is supported on the shaft. Somtimes there is a plastic bush which ends up wearing out and disintegrating causing the slop you have described. You will need to remove the gear lever assembly from the vehicle to work on it. You should be able to get a replacement bush to repair it.

Odometer and speedometer problems

You need to check the speed sensor in your rear differential. It should be held in with one 10mm bolt and then you can pull it out of the housing. You will probably find some metal on the end of it, because it is magnetic. This is due to wear in the differential. If you clean the metal residue off of the sensor and re-install it should clear up the problem. While you are there, it would be a good time to check the fluid in the differential as well.
