The only time you have 12 vdc is when u crank the engine. Maybe the fuel pump relay is faulty the coil for the relay is not strong enough to hold the contacts, try swapping or changing a new relay,

As you have probably figured out by now, you will have to treat it as a no start and troubleshoot it when it fails to start. Until you figure out if you are loosing spark or fuel to the injectors when the engine dies you have no direction to go in.

Failure to start. then will start next day. Mazda said it was fuel pump. They replaced $790.00. did not resolve problem. they kept 2 days and said it was battery. Replaced. @ weeks later same problem.

Well, they probably did put on either a bad fuel pump or should've done the relay. There is also a fuel pump REGULATOR that can cause a lot of trouble. Make them keep at it,since their work should be warranteed when they say they've fixed it. don-ohio

Fuel pump not turning on. Won't fire but will turn over. swapped out relay, still not fire.

Try banging on the fuel tank, and then quickly try to start it, if it starts your fuel pump is almost dead and will need replaced soon.
If it doesn't start, test for power at the wiring connector on top of the fuel tank. This test requires 2 people, because the fuel pump is only powered for a few seconds when the engine isn't running. If you have power, then the problem is in the fuel pump (completely failed or bad wiring connection on the pump/inside the sending unit)

You may have an EGR valve that could be hanging up on you. You may be experiencing a problem with the spider or whatever they call the mess of wires and fuel stuff in the upper intake manifold. If you haven't done a fuel pressure check on your truck then don't rule out a faulty pump. I have had pumps still work but not at the right PSI. But you are right about the GM pumps usually whining loudly before they go out. Do a fuel pressure test and then after that your are probably going to need to have a scanner to help you out with this problem.

Do yourself a favor , don't play the swap parts game ! Take it to a quailfied repair shop . Every body thinks they can fix car's .They read a little an assume that's the problem . There are specific test for checking fuel pressure an testing the fuel pump electrical circuit . If you want to fix cars go to school . You can't just replace PCM'S - powertrain control modules , they need to be programmed . This requires a factory scan tool or a J-2534 pass through device . It seems like fuel problems. i got fuel coming to the top and its good pressure..engine start for about 4 or 5 sec and die ???helpcould it be the regulator?I have installed new

The real test is to use a fuel pressure tester. It sounds like the fuel pump is making the initial prime but failing to build pressure. This could be a bad fuel pump or it possible that you have a bad fuel pump relay.
I would test the fuel pressure on the fuel rail first, if you have consistant pressure generally above 25PSI, (check MFG. spec..) then I would consider checking the regulator. If you lose pressure just after the start up then try replacing or swapping the fuel relay and see if this corrects it. If not then chances are your going to have to replace the pump.
