Question about 2000 Isuzu Rodeo

1 Answer

2000 Rodeo has intermittenly starting problems

When the key is turned, the lights and radio work fine. The car makes no noises or clicking sounds. When I place the vehicle in neutral and let it roll about 1-2 feet and place it into park again, it starts as if nothing ever happened. I'm not sure that replacing the starter is the answer because I believe the starter is only engaged after the key is turned and it isn't moving when the wheels move prior to that. I do feel that it is something that repositions electrical contacts when the wheels move. Do you have any idea what it might be? Thanks for any assistance that may be provided.

It sounds as if your neutral safety start switch may be failing. This switch only allows for the safe start of an engine when the automatic transmission is in either park or neutral. It seems when you move around the gear selector you get it back to a spot where the switch allows the engine to start. Next time this happens while in park, try wiggling around the gear selector or place your foot on the brake (so you don't roll away) and place the transmission in to neutral. If it fires up you know to either adjust or replace the switch for the park position.

I hope this might have helped,
Tom

Sounds like the alternator. You might want to try seeing if the lights and radio have power. If not it is probably the alternator.

Isuzu rodeo wont start makes a clickin noise when trying to start

It either the battery is too weak to turn it over, or the starter is bad. More than likely its just a weak battery. The lights may seem fine but they don't need as much power as the starter.

My 2000 rodeo manual trans. had a loss of power

This sounds like a restricted exhaust system, may have a clogged cat-converter,i would start by checking the exhaust system, and also check the engine for loose vacuum hoses

2000 Cavalier won't start, making fast clicking sound w/ ignition

Low voltage will cause the problem you are having, get the battery charged, and then have the alternator checked for the correct out put,13.65 to 14.25 if it is not in this range give or take a couple of volts, replace it,I would have the battery replaced also,so you won`t have the problem again.Have a shop replace the battery,if you do it yourself, the memory could be erased if certain measures are not performed.

does the car make a clicking noise when you try to start it. The best way is to take it off and have it checked at an auto electric place and havve them fix it. this will be cheaper than buting a new one.
