Likely you have a seized or severely binding pump or pulley. Give it a better visual inspection then remove the belt and manually check the pulleys...When first shut down, any that are binding get extremely hot...be careful, but that's your first clue to failure.

That changes everything...You have a coolant leak that is dousing the belt ...that's why it's slipping and affecting steering. Let it cool off and find where the leak is. Then fix whatever is leaking.

Whistling noise

Sounds like you either low on power steering fluid or you need a new power steering belt. Otherwise, your power steering pump might be bad. Are you in the US? You can probably take it to an AutoZone or an Advance Auto and one of their guys would be able to give you a confirming diagnosis. Check the first two first.

Replace the belt and retension it properely as it appears the the belt is slipping hence no power steering pump assist and the alternator is not driving

1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited steering wheel is stiff and car is overheating

stopped in drive, engine shook is gross missing.
the belt snapped on front of engine, causing PS assist to end.
time for a new belt.
they last about 50,000 miles, best is to keep eye on belts.
or can be a long walk home.
or very expensive tow job.
the bent runs many important things, do not run the engine like this.

What would cause whistling noise near pully and belt area noise gets louder with acceleration

The engine serpentine belt may be worn or wet. The belt slips, causing a high pitched squealing or whistle noise. The other possiblility is a bearing beginning to go out on one of your belt driven components

My steering has been tight, i was driving hope and i heard a noise then my truck started to sqeek and then there was smoke coming from my engnie. i made it home and looked what it could be and the belt...

Best guess it that your power steering pump has fail or that a power steering hose has burst, more likely the latter. The smoke and smell would be from the power steering fluid burning on the hot exhaust manifold. It is possible that the fluid also got on the brakes.
Your question is a bit unclear.
Inspect the engine. Is a belt broken? Look at the fluid level on the power steering pump.
Post comment with what you find and I will try to help you further. j

I am experiencing a squeaking noise from infront near the fan belt area. when i accelerate,it gets louder. I discovered that the power steering pump is leaking ,so i topped up the reservoir and it stopped...

i have a similar problem. a squeaking noise, sounds when i start the engine, and when i stop the engine. at times it comes when the engine is running and idle, and it lasts some time like a high pitched whistle. Ive had several mechanics look at it, and it seem to be one of the smaller pulleys that the belts run around. in the 2002 model (petrol) of the crv the belts are not the cam belts, becuase this model has a cam chain (much more robust!). so they all said its nothing to worry about. you can try having your pulley replaced.

97 Lexus Es300 noise under the hood by alternator

mcdevito75 here, If you have 1 continuous belt on the engine (serpentine) then the belt could be worn or the tension pully holding the belt tight could be going bad. No noise in Neautral or Park as increased engine speed in these gears over rides the worn part and thus no noise. On a cold engine examine the belt, look for frays / wear from where the belt rides the pullys. If the belt is 2 years old, Change it.

Squeak in front of engine 2002 taurus

I assume that the noise changes with engine RPMs, not vehicle speed since you mention washing down the engine - something pretty hard to do if the car is going down the road-
Is it possible that what you describe as a squeak is instead a whistle? The symptoms you mention related to water could mean that an intake manifold gasket (or another part of the intake system) has a bad gasket and is causing a whistling noise from air being pulled in where it shouldn't happen. If the failed gasket is allowing water into the intake system, that would explain why the engine sounds like it wants to die.
You might take a 2-foot length of vacuum hose or similar, hold one end to your ear and move the other end around the engine to see if you can more accurately isolate the source of the noise, be it squeak or whistle.    Obviously, don't hold the hose too tight in case you get tangled up with a belt or rotating part.
Good luck-

Whistling noise coming from engine compartment on 2004 toyota sequoia

Troublkeshoot possible noisy idler pulleys, if they are OK, remove the plastic cobers & check for a noisy timing belt tensioner pulley. Water pumps rarely "whistle"; they grind. But, if you see any evidence of leakage at the weep hole on the water pump impeller shaft, replace the pump regardless. Might as well replace the timing belt whilst you are there, too.
