Question about 2000 Renault 181
Renault dealer told me that the emmisions system has a self regenerating filter and that for every one hundred miles of urban driving you must do 20 miles at a continuous 50mph minimum for it to regenerate!!
also told that Renault had to buy back all Lagunas sold on Jersey and Gurnsey as there is a 35mph limit on the islands.
Driving 20 miles at 60mph did not clear the propblem, so the dealer is asking Renault technical services for the known resolution but which can only be done 3 times!!!
As my Laguna is a taxi this could be a major problem in the future
Maybe you are been fed a line and they do not know how to fix it unless it is a diesel renault
In which case you may have to check the extra tank that carries a special oil to burn off the carbon particulate
if that is the case find an accredited service center with experience on your make of car and talk with them
other than that sell it and get a better car

Check the EGR valve and pipes. Ensure that its very clean internally and the the ports are clear of carbon crude. You can use carb choke spray cleaner, cloth, old toothbrush and screw driver to get this device clean
