Before you check the following items, make sure your brain has been reset, remove positive batt cable from battery leave disco for 20 minutes , then reconect, some of the bad info may not have been removed from prevoius problems.first check your fan, make sure it is turning on and off, if not check your coolant temp sensor , if o.k it may be the gauge , (if the fan is working properly the engine temp is probably o.k , if not take to get the codes on your motor checked. It is very important to make sure your cooling system works correctly, if not resolved can lead to engine failure(head gasket)If no problem found it may just be a defective gauge.

Working on a 1997 grand caravan 3.8L replaced the water pump replaced electric fans new thermostat did rad flush and and made sure there was no air pockets still over heats

White steam/smoke coming out exhaust, oil in radiator, coolant in oil, smell of exhaust coming out the radiator, spark plugs wet with coolant, a coolant pressure test would confirm bad head gasket.

THE GAGE IS SHOWING HOT AND IT RADATOR STILL HAS A LOT OF WATER

The anitfreeze might not be good enough and the coolant is frozen or slushly so it does'nt circulate. The therostate can be stuck or the raditor fans could be bad. With the gauge hot is the raditor hot too? All over? The raditor can be partly plugged. The raditor needs to be brimming full and the recovery coolant tank needs to bein the hot to cold range.. Water is'nt the only thing that's in the coolant as without antifreeze it'll freeze and not circulate.

My 94 camaro is running hot at idle and while driving under 50. how do i know if my fan is working or what the problem may be?

The raditor may be only partly filled or stopped up. once running and warm if you touch the raditor it should be hot about the same all over. if the top part is hot and the bottm is cold then the raditor is stopped up. with the readitor removed and the hoses removed and a good high pressure water hose you might be able to wash it out good enough to get most of it working, don't forget to wash out the fins where the air goes though. a little soap in some sparyed on water and then reinise off good gets the dirt and bug juice off and it'll cool much better If a car comes into my shop and the raditor is more then 5 yeares since it was flushed and it appears to be partly stopped up i recomend it to be replaced. The fan should come on if you turn the aircomnditioner on, and if you let the car sit and run with the hood open it should also come on as the temperture gauge approches the red zone. it should stay on till the gauge is almost down to the middle. it shpuldn't take but a mintue with it just sitting there ideling to cool bach down with the fan running, Is the check engine light on? If it is the codes may indicate a fan relay problem or a overheating problem and you need to follow the rules for fixing those codes. Mixture control problems( codes ) can point out problems with overheating too.

Had a new raditor put in and the car still overheats, the left side and top hose gets very hot, but the center and drivers side of the raditor is not hot at all. The thermostat is new also.

sounds like the water pump may be at fault here. with the vehicle cold, remove the radiator cap. start the vehicle and let it come up to operating temperature. check to see if there is coolant flowing through the radiator, it will be obvious. if there is no obvious flow, have the water pump replaced

The engine is overheating. Removed the thermostat, radiator fans not kicking in, noticed collant leaking from were the water pump is located.

If the water pump is leaking, then you need to replace it, replace the thermostat as well. Make sure you have got all the air out of the cooling system, when you refill the coolant, by undoing the top hose of the radiator till water comes out, likewise with a heater hose, then start and check, when the temperature is right the fans should cut in, keep an eye on the temp guage whilst doing this.
Hope thgis helps

Bmw 316i automatic 1996. have had head skimmed white smoke coming from exhust the top pipe from raditor is hot but hard the bottom pipe is cold. the oil in head is a caramel cream colour. have put a new...

You have a bad head gasket. You are leaking coolant into the engine block through the cylinders. This is why you have white smoke, and the extra coolant that doesnt get burned off is going into your oil.

Still Pegged at Max Hot even with new Tstat

Good Day again,

Sorry to hear it wasn't the thermostat, Other possible causes inlcudes low coolant, water pump and or waterpump belt, radiator blockage, and radiator cap not maintaining pressure. Check you coolant level first, fill if it's low, typically if it was the pump you would devolop a coolant leak as the pressure builds in the pump assembly. Check the belt though, any squeaks while running? Also if the seal in the raditor cap is bad then no pressure can build. To test the pump remove the raditaor cap (ensure the motor is COLD!!) and start the motor w/o the cap installed, watch the coolant level as it is should be going down slowly as it pumps through the system. Also check the seal on the raditor cap for any cracks's or visible damage.

The temp sensor is a possibilty but a rare one at that.

Hope this helps again
