Most likely the firing order is off. Are you sure you got the wires back on the right plugs? Which engine do you have?

SOURCE: dying 2001ford explorer sports trac

I had the same problem. I would get to a red light or stop sign, and my tach would go to 1000, then 500 then, if I didn't rev the motor, it would die. It turned out to be a vacuum leak. A rubber elbow shaped 1" line on the top of the motor, toward the front, but underneath the black plastic linkage cover (3 screws to remove). I don't hear that well, but I had a friend listen, and he could hear the sucking/hissing sound. The rubber elbow slides over two pipes; one that is going to the front of the vehicle, then turns right and connects to a second pipe going to the driver's side. If not this line, look for others. Good luck!

SOURCE: 2001 Ford Explorer idles rough when at a stop in

sounds like a vacuum intake leak..check a those little tubes for cracks and security. also check your transmission levels, this will sometimes cause a surging problem while driving..if all this checks good then it might be dirty or clogged injectors..purchase a can of Sea Foam from Autozone $10 pour in 1/2 can to half tank of gas and drive around for thirty minutes..highway driving preferred, and see if that will clean up the fuel system. Can i get some feedback, thanks

SOURCE: when stoping steering wheel shakes

Have your front brake rotor's cut or replace, there warp that why it shakes at stops. If your going to have them cut make sure they mic them, if to thin, they will warp again.

SOURCE: My 1998 Ford Explorer starts shaking when I'm driving and its very random

Have the front control arm bushings replaced and check the ball joints for excessive wear as well as the tie rod ends, the problem lies there. Also check for a cracked frame.

Why does my Acura CL die when driving?

Check wires. Mainly the battery wires. then work your way out. Start the car up and start shaking wires until it stops. If that doesnt work, then get a mechanic to look.

Check for vacuum leaks.

Have someone feather the gas pedal while you listen carefully to the engine. If the leak is bad enough you'll probable hear it.
More than likely, it's either a vacuum hose or the o-rings under the intake manifold.

Hope this helps!

does the shake come and go at different speeds? check your tie rod ends by lifting the front wheels off the ground and grab the tire and shake from left to right. if they are tight you probbably need to replace the rotors

Ford Explorer 2001 sport

It could be several things.
1. Maybe fouled fuel injectors
2. Misfire from faulty spark plug
2. oxygen sensor or egr valve
