This problem I find in alot of 3.4 ltre grand-ams and that is the wiring go to the intake air temp sensor is broken at the connector. the wire will look good but in the insulation it will be broken. just give each wire a tug, if the wire pulls out then that is the broken one.

Get a smog exemption

Some states don't allow an exception. You either get it fixed, sell it or don't drive it.

2001 grand am 2.4 wont start and it is not the pass lock i changed the fuel filter and the pump comes on

did you install the fuel filter correctly for direction of flow.this can cause no fuel flow.there should be an arrow on the filter indicating the flow of fuel.also if this isn`t the problem then have the fuel pressure with a gauge and flow checked as if its not within specs the car won`t start.

I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE. In the last week my car has been revving when i start it. I have been turning the car off when i notice it revving and usually after three tries it stops revving. Now im...

It sounds like the engine has a bad vacuum leak, they are very problematic for a leaking intake gasket. This usually would be accompanied with coolant loss, but not always. Other causes are loose air plentum snorkel (if air filter recently replaced) or a leaking vacuum hose. It could also be a sign of a computer problem starting. It would be best to have a technician or parts retailer scan it for you to narrow the problem down. The clunk noise maybe unrelated or possibly engine noise(like an intake issue), check the oil and coolant levels first.

My car won't pass smog . (ca.) the no (ppo) measurement is 739 max allowed is 704 . what could be the problem i'd need to fix inorder to pass?

i would buy a really good set of spark plugs and replace the wires and distributar cap this will burn more of the smog off and get the plugs with 4 prongs they fire much better and improve your gas mileage and make it run smoother hope this helps
