Do my 2007 for Explorer Limited has a timing belt or chain. If so when do it need to be changed.

It only need to be replaced on a belt drive when the edges are frayed or the belt is cracking. A chain drive will need replacing when it begins to stretch, has to much play by moving side to side. If you live in a state that requires a yearly inspection they would normally notify you if it needs replacing. You can Google the year make an model for vehicle specs as to which drive you have. Hope this helps you.

My cambelttiming beltwas changed at 42600miles in 2010.The car has now done 836000 in 2016 which is 6 years on so i was wondering if this needs doing again.

Depends on what replaced the first time. Just the belt? I would pop the top cover and try to look at the pulleys and see if the belt is fraying at the sides. If they were fraying( a little is normal, very short fibers) a lot, I would replace everything in there. If it looks OK, I'd keep driving it till the 120,000 then replace all of it.

My drive belt frayed away and came off..i would like to replace with a new one..my timing belt is ok..the drive belt runs the alternater, power steering and runs off the camshaft..does the drive belt need...

that is an accessory belt. no year car stated or make. wow.
it dont run off any cam shaft sorry, you sound very confused.

the cam belt must be replaced at 60,000 miles.
and is timed,
the accessory belts are not timed.
all are precision tensioned. to achieve max life span.

what car, what year, what size engine.

What is the average life of a serpentine belt?

It varies from vehicle to vehicle but you could ask the dealer---my view has always been to keep an eye on the belt for cracks or fraying anywhere---they are not that hard to replace and while costs will vary (on mine found a OEM one new for 26 dollars and same belt at local parts place was 52---same brand and part number.

It is better to replace it and have the tension unit that tightens most of these inspected than have it go when you are driving down the road.

In my case I keep the old belt rolled up and stowed in the vehicle in case the new one fails.

How do you replace the engine belt on a 98 dodge dakota. The belt is frayed and looks like it will either break or come off. Is it a fix I can do myself?

yes they are very easy to replace of course get the correct belt at the auto store they will ask you the year and model of the car.. you can find excellent videos on how to do this by going to youtube videos now it says belt tensioner and this video it to replace that but you will see how the belt comes off its very easy just remember the way the belt is ran there should be a diagram somewhere under the hood by the latch mech.... you shouldent have to remove anything but the belt..good luck i hope this helps you..

I am being told our serpentine belt needs to be replaced. How many miles do they normally last?

depends upon weather, driving conditions, engine options, but the bottom line is the belt will eventually dry out, crack or start peeling (fraying) which should be visible to the naked eye. Also look for oil on belt which can make it slip. There is also an indicator (3 notches looking down from top) which indicates belt wear/stretch. replace belt if outside of indicators.

Just got alternater replaced a couple of months ago and its starting to squeel again like last time and the battery light keeps flickering on and off

The alternator drive belt is loose or worn out. If the alternator is driven off a serpentine belt then replace the belt. Inspect the serpentine belt tensioner and replace if necessary. On an 18 year old car it is more than likely defective. If it is driven off a standard drive belt then adjust the alternator to tighten the belt. Inspect the belt for fraying and or cracks and replace if you see any.

One of the three drive belts on my 1986 corolla (4a-c engine) is frayed and needs replacing. The belt loops around the idler pulley, air conditioner? and crank. Can I just cut this belt out and not use...

to replace the belt you need to see what size socket the tensioner has on the inside. with a ratchet attached put the socket on the inside bolt and push in the rotation to move the spring down taking the tension off of the belt. Pull the belt off and be sure to replace it with one of the same lenght. to install the belt, push the tensioner down and pull the belt over it. the tensioner will adjust itself to the correct tension.

Power steering makes a noise when turning left

Might have low fluid, check that first, next if fluid is not a problem, its prolly the unit itself that needs replacing, if you are loosing fluid, check to see if its the lines or the housing. Lines are easy to replace and cheap

NOTE:
  • Minor cracks in the V-grooved portion of the serpentine drive belt are considered normal and acceptable. If the drive belt has chunks missing from the ribs, the drive belt should be replaced.

Conditions requiring drive belt replacement are excessive wear, rib chunkout, severe glazing, frayed cords, etc. Replace any drive belt that exhibits any of these conditions.
