Question about 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

Just replaced the clutch on 2004 CAVALIER. the car ran fine then started to feel like it was going to stall, its a manual not automatic. then one day it just shut off, if you turn the key there is nothing. i have lights, dashboard lights. at the same time the air conditioner stopped working, if i turn off ac the fan blows, but push in the ac button and the fan stops. are these problems related? i also changed the starter, ran for a bit and then shut down. this didnt fix the problem.

Hi.... Sounds as if you could have a loose starter motor! you need to get under the vehicle to make sure that the starter is in place first... If ok then possibly the flywheel gear or the starter pinoin could be worn causing the noise that you hear but this would not be related to stalling at lights....

I can help you with this. However you need to give me a little more info please....when did this happen? while you were driving? is there gas in the car? do you smell gas? does it make any noises? is the car an automatic or manual transmission? Do you have all of your lights functioning? are there any warning lights in the dash when you try and start it, or when it stalls?

I have a 97 chevy cavalier with a 2.2 liter engine and an automatic trans. i replaced the head gasket and it ran fine for about a month. Then it suddenly started sputtering and stalling, it also had a loss...

you need to take the car to a muffler shop and have the catylitic converter changed... the converter is stopped up not letting the exaust leave the engine thus stopping it.

the pcm may have a cracked board, i had an 88 cavalier z24 with the same problem, replced the ecu and it ran fine, the problem is that the boards inside the pcm crack and lose connection, the next time it acts up open the glove box and try tapping on the pcm, if the car responds at all, the pcm is bad

Sounds like a plugged exhaust system to me... check the tailpipe... try to smother it with your hand while wearing a oven mitten. You should feel pressure building up... check the feel of the pressure with another vehicle. Mufflers do come apart inside and pieces get stuck in the tail pipe forcing the engine to idle or even just stall out... In this case you are fortunate to get 10mph. Good luck....

91 automatic Cavalier stalls after stopping

It sounds like the torque converter clutch. Just unplug it. It is the square 4 pin plug on the front of the transmission. Once it is unplugged and you get it unlocked, it will be fine. Just leave it unplugged, it won't hurt anything.
