Question about 1992 Toyota Land Cruiser

1 Answer

Have fuel and spark but no start

I have an 92 landcruiser with 216,000 miles. it has sat for two years or more. at first it had no spark so i replaced the ignition coil and now have spark. i drained old fuel and put in new. it cranks over kinda slow even though i got a new 820 ca battery. it acts like it wants to start but wont actually take off. i found that the distrubuter was loose and i tried to set it in the right spot with no success? rotor is in the right position and wires are going to the right cylinders. im stumped. we have fuel and spark what else do i need?

May just be bad fuel If it has sat for that long. your fuel can be restored with an additive you can get from any auto parts store.I would try that first to rule that out.

I drove my car for about 90 miles, returned home. My 92 mercury marquis sat over night- now it turns over, has fuel but wont start.Help

If you get down to basics, it takes fuel, spark, and compression for an engine to run. If you are SURE you are getting fuel into the cylinders(injectors are spraying fuel), then it probably has no spark. Most likely and ignition module. Don't assume your getting fuel into the cylinders just because you have fuel pressure to the test port, that's only half the trip to the cylinders. The igniton has to tell the computer to open and close the injectors.

With your Clarifications I suggest having the Fuel Pump Pressure Tested as one other gentleman suggested that it is most likely bleeding down overnight. Another possibility would be the Fuel Filter being clogged. The factory recommendation is to change fuel filters every 30,000 miles. Many people do not even know a Fuel Filter exists on their vehicles. Some years back they were near or in the carb. Weak Ignition would be the last thing to look into as the vehicle runs somewhat normally once started and running for a while. Modern vehicles have Electric Fuel Pumps inside the Fuel Tank. This is somewhat expensive to replace but necessary maintenance after many many miles. Good Luck!

Won't start after sitting for years. Replaced battery. Turns over but will not start

What about fuel? Was fuel in the tank when the car was parked years ago? If so, the system has to be flushed and cleaned out, from and including the gas tank to the carb or injectors (all fuel lines). Have you checked for fuel and spark?

Stalls out about every 10 miles or so,let sit bout 5min,restarts

have you changed the plugs and leads, if you don't know the last time it was started there is a few things you need to take into account, engine oil and spark plugs fuel filter even the fuel in the tank empty and replace, coil and the points ( if upgraded there is no coil and points as been converted) you would also need to clean out the carburetor as old fuel drying can block or limit fuel entering the engine. change air filter. even standing an engine for a year or 2 these parts can degrade as they have not been used. also change the water and flush the system and refill with coolant/antifreeze.
