every possibility that the timing ( firing order) is wrong from what you describe
bring the engine to tdc no1 piston on compression and that is no 1 plug lead in the distributor cap
it is electronic
could be a faulty coil /wiring
not the chain or it would not be running at all
I would be looking at an incorrect coil or igniter in the distributor
coils come in 2 types
12 volts start and 7.5 v run or straight 12 volts
if you run a 7.5 volt coil without the resistance wire or resistance block , it will overheat the coil and it will break down , missing or hard to start or no start at all
you said you repl dist cap that means you don't have a crank sensor you have electronic ing module. remove your elec ing module have it tested most auto parts stores could test your module, or check your coil at the neg terminal. should have power. if not you lost your primary volt from your batt.your secondary power is coming from your electronic ing module from the module to the pos terminal on the coil, when the eng cranks, from the coil to the dist cap , from the dist cap center to the rotor then out to the plugs, this all happen pervided the timing belt or timing chain is ok. the cumbustion chainber needs 3 things , thats fuel, air, and spark.
Try adjusting the distributor cap, just slightly. It may be out of time. OR, you did not line up the marks on the new timing chain correctly. OR, you put the plug wires back on in the wrong place. Check the order of the plug wires. I can almost guarantee, it will be one of these 3 problems.
Do you have a "no start" based on fuel, ignition, or engine problems? All of these are required to be good to start an engine. Must check for spark at plugs. If o/k check fuel pressure at fuel rail.If o/k check engine copression.
