Yes, by all means, check the timing belt. If that's good, check the coil, and igniter.
There's a great website you might want to check out that explains what to look for, and how to troubleshoot such problems as yours; it's called tegger.com. Check it out!!!
Good luck, Mark

92 civic engine stalled while driving; fuel pump works; replaced all plugs seeing some oil on old ones. only one plug fires; is coil still working? or the distributor? haven't checked fuel...

Hi,
Check the ignition distributor cap and clean the electric contact points it might be already dirty.

if one has a spark that means your ignition coil is still okay. Remove the whole cap and check the inside part and clean it, use emery board.
Check also the high tension wires( spark plug wires ).
Hope Fixya helps you!

1991 honda civic not running on third cylinder. Have changed plugs and they are all firing. What could it be? Someone told me a burnt valve but it started acting up all of a sudden.

You could have bad compression rings on that piston. I would do a compression test on that cylinder, also I would check the fuel injector.

My 1998 honda civic ex wont start, I have tried changing the fuel filter, distributor cap and rotor, and air filter. It cranks but wont fire up... a couple days ago the car stopped running while my dad...

Make sure your distruibutor rotor in turning while cranking engine, if it is timing belt ok, more then likely your not getting spark to spark plugs check your ignition coil, but more then likely it's going to be your ignition module.

Honda 2000 model will not start getting fire to plugs

Is it getting gas, spray throttle cleaner inside, try to turn it over to see if it will run. Open the gas cap and have someone turn the car on (not to crank) and listen to see if your fuel pump make any noise. Does the car even turn over and try to start. Fuel filter, fuel pump this is where it needs to be checked.

1991 Honda Civic. Starter works, engine will not fire.

If you're not getting any spark, it may be the coil or the igniter, both of which are located inside the distributor.
If no fuel, you may have a problem with your main relay.
Check out tegger.com for more information on these components as well as other possibilities.

If you can hear the fuel pump cut in, try the mass air flow sensor. MAF.
