the fittings on the high pressure line coming off of the pump that are leaking (there are 2 fittings right have another that is leaking) (not lower pressure)

Regarding the engine light: after starting the car it is on constantly... took it in to repair shop to be checked ...they checked it out (anything that may have caused it to come) but everything check out fine..supposedly...

by "engine remains on" do you mena the check engine light? engine type please? clean and dry P/S lines with vehicle cooled off fill reservoir have assistant in vehicle, with engine on have assistant oversteer vehicle while you observe for leak location with flashlight and inspection mirror, repair as neccessary if leak not visible at lines or pump, poke a very small hole in the P/S rack boots on rack & pinion assy. if fluid comes out of boot replace the rack

it depnds on where the line is leaking. if you didn't screw it in perfectly straight, you may have cross threaded it. you can try taking it back off and screwing it in again. if it's leaking elsewhere, you'll have to replace the line. what do you mean the engine remains on??? it won't shut off??? is it running 24 hours a day???

SOURCE: How to replace brake lines

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle on jackstands.
  3. Remove any wheel and tire assemblies necessary for access to the particular line you are removing.
  4. Thoroughly clean the surrounding area at the joints to be disconnected.
  5. Place a suitable catch pan under the joint to be disconnected.
  6. Using two wrenches (one to hold the joint and one to turn the fitting), disconnect the hose or line to be replaced.
  7. Disconnect the other end of the line or hose, moving the drain pan if necessary. Always use a back-up wrench to avoid damaging the fitting.
  8. Disconnect any retaining clips or brackets holding the line and remove the line from the vehicle.
To install:
  1. Install the new line or hose, starting with the end farthest from the master cylinder. Connect the other end, then confirm that both fittings are correctly threaded and turn smoothly using finger pressure. Make sure the new line will not rub against any other part. Brake lines must be at least 1/2 in. (13mm) from the steering column and other moving parts. Any protective shielding or insulators must be reinstalled in the original location.
  2. Using two wrenches as before, tighten each fitting.
  3. Install any retaining clips or brackets on the lines.
  4. If removed, install the wheel and tire assemblies, then carefully lower the vehicle to the ground.
  5. Refill the brake master cylinder reservoir with clean, fresh brake fluid, meeting DOT 3 specifications. Properly bleed the brake system.
Connect the negative battery cable.

Replaced air compressor in1999 mercury mystique replaced fuses worked for few minutes then stopped

If you mean A/C compressor, there are safety switches for high and low pressure. You need to evacuate the A/C system with a Vacuum pump and then fill it with Freon. If you already did this, chances are that when the Freon stabilized, it was either too high or too low of a pressure and the safety switches worked.

1999 mercury cougar power steering leak

it depends if it is your high pressure or low pressure line if it is the high pressure line you can purchase at an auto parts store for about $60-$70. If it is your low pressure line good luck finding a replacement. But what I did that cost me about $5 was buy a gas line that fit and a couple clamps and I cut out the section with the leak and installed the gas lin in its place. But remember you can only do that simple fix with the low pressure line.

Is the serpentine belt and the timing belt the same thing?

Your serpentine belt and timing belt are not the same thing. If your serpentine belt breaks, you will lose your alternator, your cooling system, air conditioning, and your power steering. In turn, it will leave you stranded in a very short period of time.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee leaking coolant and power steering fluid

Just a heads up, $10 bucks will buy you a seal kit for the P.S. pump. I topped mine off for a couple months, then the oring on the high pressure line (from pump, front center) blew and dumped the reservoir in a matter of miles.

The line can be a stinker to get off, recommend driving the car for a few minutes to heat up the pump a little. Don't forget the 20MM wrench.
