first things first...check your air filter for clogging....this may cause more problems then you think...second, if your fuel pump has been making noise, then its faulty no matter what....noise is never good, try re fuelling your tank at no less then 1/4 tank...running your tank less then that all the time does much damage to the fuel pump. When u drop the tank, check out your wiring harness which plugs into the pump. make sure there is no corrosion, bent pins, broken connectors etc.. if okay, then proceed to drop the tank and replace your fuel pump...at the bottom of the pump you will see a strainer, it looks like a little screen..replace that as well and if you haven't already, the fuel filter too...that way everything related to fuel is taken care of...if your fuel filter is plugged, it will cause the pump to work harder then necessary to output the demand causing the noise you're hearing, or lack of fuel you're experiencing...okay? try that and please do let me know...

Maybe just your fuel filter needs replaced, much cheaper than replacing your fuel pump...

Try pushing the automatic fuel shut off button located on the left side of the steering wheel or in the glove compartment If that doesnt work then you should make sure the fuel pump is pumping fuel by listening for it to power on when you turn your ignition key

How can we get to reducing consumption in the 1994 Ford Aerostar XLT passenger?

There's a bunch of things you can do. Start with a good healthy tune up, new filters (air, oil & fuel). Next make sure your tires are inflated to factory specs. Most neglected item on vehicles. Other suggestions, synthetic oil in trans, and wheel bearings greased w/synthetic grease. One last simple thing, every 3rd tankful pour in a bottle of STP gas treatment - keeps everything from fuel tank to injectors clean and running smooth. All of the above I can attest for..

My 1997 S-10 v-6, 4.3 vortec just stopped running and will not fire at all. It has gas in it but will not fire. It only has 90,000 miles on it.

Turn the key to run and listen for fuel pump in the gas tank to run you should hear a buzzing noise that should only last 3 to 5 seconds then will shut off until you try to start. You should also hear the fuel pump relay click off under the hood. If fuel pump is good you need to check for spark at one of the plugs.

I have an 89 lincoln town car. when i drive i smell gas. what could be the problelm?

Sounds like it may be running rich. Replace your upstream oxygen sensor if its been over 6 months to a year.

Check your fuel pressure regulator and make sure it isn't wet, which means the seal may be leaking. Also, check your fuel line hose and fuel return hose for leaks going into the fuel rail.

I would also check the fuel injectors for any leaks.

Sometimes, the EGR, exhaust gas recirculation valve and tube may get clogged with carbon, if all else fails I would check and make sure it is not clogged.

My '87 Aerostar van died and won't start. I replaced the fuel pump and it didn't help at all. The fuel pump won't run. What's wrong with it?

There are two things to check relative to the fuel system first locate and press the reset button on the inertia switch this switch disables the fuel pump but usually only deactivates the fuel pump if the vehicle has gone over a curb been jacked up really high or some type of traumatic vibration or bump has occured. The other thing to look at is the fuel pressure regulator, it is located somewhere on the top of the motor at the end of the fuel rail if you see that ti is wet with gas it should be replaced the last thing to do is to check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail it should be a minimun of 30 psi of fuel pressure. One more thing ensure that the fuses are good and all the connections to the pump are ok and not dirty or damaged and the pump's plug has power to it when the key is in the on position.

1996 chevy suburban maybe fuel pump problems

yes it's in the fuel tank....................Drop the tank and the rest is easy.
Getting the Gas out before dropping the tank can prove to be a pain but after that is done the rest is easy.(best to run it a empty as possible) Two straps hang the tank. Remove the strap bolts and the tank will come undone. Remove the filler hoses, disconnect the power leads and the fuel lines and the tank is free. The pump comes out by twisting a ring.then remove the pump and replace then reverse the earlier steps to reinstall
