Question about 2007 Subaru Forester Sports 2.5XT

1 Answer

Is there any information about the window gussets for the 2007 Forester? My friend warned me about the rattle before I bought it. My has already rattled.I talked to other owners with the same problem, but my dealership wouldn't not simulate the situation that causes the rattle and denied me any solution. I just want to read up on it. Where can I find a written warning or complaint?

Window gussets rattling? are you talking about the rubber piece behind the outside mirrors? if there is any concern with these gussets cousing a rattle i've never heard of it,when the gusset goes bad or gets deformed they cause a wind noise while driving, air seeps between the gusset and the weatherstrip, gussets deform over time because the window rides up it,the gusset actually moves back and forth against the weatherstrip due to the window constantly putting pressure on it when it rises and lowers hope this helps,by the way this is a easy fix,if this is the concern, roll the window down, open door and push mirror toward weatherstrip,if it doesn't correct you'll need a new gusset

I have unbearable wind noise from both the drivers side and passenger side mirrors above 40MPH. What can be done. Thank you, Dennis from Duxbury

There is a TSB Bulletin on issue. Number:12-82-04 dated 04/15/04.
Involves Replacing Door Mirror Gussets. First try opening window and squeezing rubber together (that glass runs through) by mirror to see if that helps reduce noise. I believe this is caused by closing door hold glass instead of door!
Replacement parts are:
Right Gusset PN 61158AE00B
Left Gusset PN 61158AE01B

I had left one changed at body shop (while car was there) and now its so quiet the right one is annoying me!

Installing replacement side mirror on 2007 Subaru Forester

yes... you'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you can access the bolts holding the mirror on and disconnect the wiring harness as well..

My subaru forester has a rattle in the catalytic converter can it be repaired

I bet its just a the heat shield on the catalytic converter. Subaru uses very thin metal and the heat shield is bolted as opposed to welded together. This rattle is extremely common on subys.

mrmopar is right that you should replace it.

however there is a quick fix that will stop the noise. Go pick up a 6" stainless steel hose clamp at the hardware store. put the hose clamp around the cat. It should be obvious whats loose when you look under the car.

if you are a little handy its not a hard job to do your self. Just 4 bolts. You can get a catalytic converter for $200 online. Get the gaskets too. shouldn't take more than an hour or two.

You will need to put the car on jack stands or rhino ramps to get access. Once you are under the car, the parts are easy to get to.

Always, always chock the tires when your under the car. You do not want a car to fall on you.

Rattling sound when accelerating on 2007 Forester

On mine, I got under there and there are rocks rattling in the heat shield. There are factory made holes in it, and the rocks sit in there like eggs in a carton and rattle when the engine hits a certain vibration frequency which is basically when it is at a stop light or idling. The repair shop wanted to charge to cut them off but I think I am going to drill bigger holes so the rocks fall out, as they are pretty tiny.

My 2003 Forester driver side window wont work.

You need power window regulator as the cable of the regulator is out its place ,

  1. Remove the gusset cover.
  2. Pull up the inner door handle cover toward you to remove the upper hook. Pull down it to remove the lower hook. Remove the inner door handle cover.
  3. Remove the power window switch assembly.
  4. Using a trim panel remover, remove the clips of the trim panel.
  5. Remove the speaker.
  6. Using a spatula, remove the door sealer.
  7. Remove the outer mirror assembly.
  8. Remove the front end of the door weatherstrip and gusset.
  9. Remove the stabilizers.
  10. Remove the rear end of the door weatherstrip (inner and outer).
  11. Operate the power windows switch so the bolts from the regular assembly are visible through the service holes. Remove the mounting nuts.
  12. Take out the door glass. CAUTIONDo not turn the regulator in closing direction after removal of the glass. Otherwise gear may be disengaged.
  13. Loosen the nuts to remove the rear sash.
  14. Disconnect the power window motor wiring harness.
  15. Loosen the four bolts and two nuts to pull out the regulator assembly.
  16. Remove the screws to remove the motor from the regulator assembly.
  17. Installation is the reverse order of removal.0759a6d.jpg23cb1e4.jpg
