Question about 2003 Ford Focus

2 Answers

Hi there! Just having a problem with my 2003 Ford Focus: I was on my way to work and tried to turn on the car and all I got was a rapid clicking noise. I know the battery is still good eventhough its older, but there is some battery acid build-up around the posts. So, my father-in-law came over to jump start the car. He said to keep it running for about 30min and it should be fine. So that's what I did. The engine now succesfully turns over. My prolem is that I worry too much, and I'm leaving for a week long camping trip tommorow morning to the middle of nowhere. Do you think the battery will keep the charge? If I turn off the engine will I be able to turn it back on? Will the car stall in the middle of the highway??? Should I postpone the trip and take the car to a mechanic? Thanks for your help! Srry for sp errors... just in a rush!

No, it probably will not be fine.
You need to determine what caused it to go low.
It could be the battery terminals just need to be taken off, cleaned, and greased. But you could have a loose alternator belt, bad alternator, bad battery, or you could have left a light on.
The way to tell if the alternator is bad is that the battery should only have about 12.5 volts, but the alternator must put out more if it is to charge the battery. Typically 13.9. If you do not have a volt meter, just watch the headlights as you rev the engine. They should get brighter.

The battery acid build up is your problem. Its causing a draw on the battery besides the starter. You need to clean the posts off with just warm water. No baking soda. Then you should be fine. The alternator will have enough time to charge the battery back up when your driving.

03 windstar cuts out when a/c is turned on

2003 Ford Windstar-this may the idleing amount is too much so which may makes it to idle rough. that means too much of fuel going inside the engine.

Engine stalls- this is because the when the car is off and when AC is on the AC runs in battery. When you try starting the car the starter motor takes power from the battery. it doesnt have enough battery power t o starts thats why it stalls.

Car runs rough and stalls. 03 ford focus code p1299

You have a cooling problem with this vehicle, what happens is that as soon as the engine is running too hot the PCM starts by switching some of the cylinders off to try and control the temperature but if you ignore this the PCM will start cutting out two cylinders at a time and restricting the RPM to 3000rpm only, called limp mode. This trouble code will be registered in the PCM under the code P2199
If you still ignore this the PCM will switch the engine off completely to avoid serious damage to the engine
Have a look at the coolant level, Radiator leaks, Water pump, thermostat, blocked radiator
Hope this will help you
