Need instructions on how to reset a lifter vavle on a 2000 eclipse gt . There is a loud clicking sound under the vavle cover when the car is idiling. I work at a toyota dealership as a lub tech and i asked one of the techs there and they told me to reset the lifter valves.

Hi, lifter valves cannot be "reset". I never heard of lifter valves being reset. When they are worn, you need to replace them, engine overhaul.

Hi, you need to tear down the top of the engine to get to the lifters. It is not an easy procedure. Special tools are required and installation is best left to an experienced mechanic who has changed the lifters on the exact car you own. Depending on the miles and how long you plan on keeping the car, it might be cheaper just to replace the engine with a good running used one. Just make sure it's your lifters and the oil pump going bad. Have a mechanic check the oil pressure. If the pressure is low, not enough oil is getting to the top of the engine, oil pump bad.

How do i fix my 2001 740i bmw it makes a ticking sound win idleing

could possibly be a lifter tapping (Ticking) ,depending on how many miles the vehicle has on it might be time for lifters to be adjusted, most foreign overhead cam engines must have lifters adjuster periodically ,if you turn on the air its puts more of a load on the engine causing a louder sound (also check oil level an engine low on oil will start to tick too.. the more wear the engine gets the looser the lifters can get over time ,look in your service manual if you have one and see what the intervals are on lifter adjustment this can give you an idea.
possible only if
the ticking sound is coming from the top of the engine usually comes from under the vavle covers where the lifters are located,

Hi i do have 2006 eclipse GT 3.8 and i have one problem in the cold days in morrning only u can hear clicking ticking so loud some told me the lefters some told me the oil pump but when ever i restart the...

Lifters use oil to create pressure in them. the pressure usually is maintained after the car is shut off. If the lifters are going bad, then they do not hold the pressure and will tick until the pressure rebuilds in them. It seems that when you wait 5 seconds, it is enough time for the pressure to maintain. First, I would check the oil pressure, if it is good then I would try a solvent that is designed to help lifter issue. If neither works, then you may have to change the lifters.

I have knocking under my vavle cover what could be the problem

If it is a heavy knock it sounds mechanical and I'd have it checked before something bad goes. If it is that of a clicking sound I expect it is a sticking, failed or failing valve lifter. Given the year of your car this may be under warranty in your power train warranty,
I hope this may have helped,
Tom
