Take the starter off and take it to autozone, they test them free. Or find the solenoid and cross the positive with the side attachment.it may be that or a bad battery

I think you mean the engine won't start. If the starter is not turning the engine at all, some wires have not been reconnected. The starter has a heavy current cable from the battery, and a smaller (about 2-3mm) wire that connect the starter solenoid. If this is not connected, the starter will not work.
If the starter does turn, check all the wiring again, something is not connected.
The starter motor when cranking the engine when energized, causes the crankshaft to turn and the belt pulleys will also turn. If the starter motor just sounds without engaging, there is a problem with the starter solenoid or the starter great teeth or the ring great teeth. Once the engine cranks but will not run, the engine must have compassion, fuel and spark for it to run.
If the battery is fine, why jump it? Faulty thinking to state or think: all electrical in the car work fine. If it did the starter motor would be turning the engine over. The starter motor work on electrical...not all is fine.
check: 1) 60a starter fuse/relay. 2) voltage to starter when turning key to activate starter motor, this will rule out ignition switch or relay. 3) apply direct voltage to starter motor to detect bad starter motor.
10 chances to 1 the starter is not your problem. Try this, turn on the headlights, hit the starter. If the lights go out, then look at the soleniod an the All the connections. If the lights stay on,replace the starter. Another thing. Hold it in start mode for 20 seconds, then check for heat at all connections. Could get a burn doing this, but think of the bucks you saved!
Usually if you hear the starter solenoid click but the starter doesn't crank, its the starter. And since it was after a trip that is usually when starters are bad when they get hot.
I think your right about the starter being bad.
When you turn the key, it will draw all the energy that it can from the battery. That's why your dash-lights go out.
When you take it in to be replaced, have them test out the old and the new starter.
I've gotten a defective starter before that was brand new.
i think ur starter solenoid is bad.. replace the starter and ur problem should be fixed...i had this same problem on my 1999 cL...replaced my starter and it was fixed
When you say it will not turn over, i think you mean that the starter does not turn???
Re check the starter connection, attention to the starter solenoid wiring. Good luck
if the starter turns the engine then your starter system is working properly, i would start by checking all of the fuses both under the hood and in the interior panel as well if all is well, then check for spark and fuel
