The Jetta vr6 has a timing chain. These don't have to be replaced unless the gear is worn. When worn they will jump timing by a tooth or two. This will cause the engine to run rough. I'm trying to buy a good vw jetta, I found one

Most VW are interferance motors. That would mean the pistons could have hit some valves. I would stay away.
Also have you seen the motor? I may be off but I thought the VR6's had a chain. Even if, its still an interfernce motor.

You may have a bad coil pack - try moving two of them around and see if the misfire follows the coil pack or stays at the same cylinder. If it follows the coil pack, get a new one. If it stays in the same cylinder, inspect your spark plug wires and make sure the plug is gapped correctly.

Cost to replace clutch in 2000 VW Jetta

from what is was told locally is that it would be around $800 - $1000 and can take just around a full day to do. it is not a quick job, so labor costs can be high and the price of parts play a big factor in it just because it is a vw.
